Fruit Mahjong is a fruit-themed mahjong solitaire game. Match each free tile with another identical one to remove it from the stack. Clear the entire stack to win.

How to Play Fruit Mahjong

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play below the game’s title to begin.

Select a free tile, then select an identical one to clear it.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

Your goal is to clear the entire stack of fruit-themed tiles. Clear tiles by selecting a pair of free identical tiles. Tiles are free if they have no tile above them and have at least one unblocked horizontal side. The game helpfully renders all non-free tiles in gray.

If you’re having trouble finding pairs of tiles, select the reset button on the lower right corner of the menu to shuffle the tiles onscreen. This will cost you 300 points. The game will also automatically shuffle the tiles when no free tiles can be paired.

To beat the level, you must clear out all the tiles before the timer expires. You will fail the level if you run out of time. After failing, you have the option to try again or quit the game.

In some cases, you can win the game even without clearing all the tiles. This usually happens if the last two pairs of tiles can be matched with each other but are placed in a way that blocks you from clearing them.

Levels

The game has 51 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. Each time you reload the game, you’re given the option to either start a new session or keep playing the previous one. You can only play a level once in each session.

The amount of time you have in each level varies. In general, it trends upward. The more tiles you must clear, the more time you usually start with.

Scoring

You earn 100 points for every pair of tiles you’ve removed. You also earn an extra 30 or so points based on the remaining number of seconds in the timer. Your score is cumulative across every level you play. You can submit your score to the leaderboard after finishing the game.

The leaderboard can be accessed from the High Scores button on the welcome screen.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Begin removing tiles from the left and right sides of the screen to open up the stack. If you’re having difficulty looking for pairs, we usually recommend waiting until you actually run out of moves to trigger the auto-shuffle. Use the shuffle feature only when you’re running low on time.

Educational Aspects

The game hones a player’s pattern matching and recognition skills and visual acuity. It also introduces younger players to various types of fruits, though the game does not label them.
