Open Bar Game Review
Open Bar Game Background
Open Bar is a simple restaurant sim where you’re put in the shoes of a bartender at night. Serve the customers their drinks in as timely a manner as you can. Pour out the right amount of beverages onto their cups to earn as high a tip as you can. Don’t forget to clean up.
How to Play Open Bar
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play near the bottom center to begin.
To serve drinks, you must first select a customer. Each kind of drink are served differently.
- To serve beer, select the tap and pull down to pour beer into the glass. Fill the glass to the level marked by the dashed line, then pull the tap back up to stop pouring.
- To serve a cocktail, you must first select the shaker and move it rapidly to mix it. Once shaken, select the shaker to pour out the cocktail onto the glass to the level marked by the line. Select the shaker again to stop pouring.
Once a customer is done, you must clean up the glass. Select the empty glass, then select the dishrag. Move the dishrag around a few times to clean up the moisture.
Basic Gameplay Advice
You have 3 minutes and 50 seconds to serve the customers. Customers have a limited amount of patience as indicated by the bar above them. If the bar fills up, they will leave. Serve as many customers as you can before they lose their patience.
The amount you receive in tips depends on how well you fill up the glass. Fill the glass at just the right level and the customer will give you $200, whereas if you underfill or overfill the glass, you’ll only receive $100. Filling close to the level will give you a tip of $150.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Prioritize customers who have waited the longest to minimize the likelihood of them leaving.
Follow the real-world adage “clean as you go;” the moment the customer leaves, immediately clean up their spot before going to the next customer. This will help keep you on top of everything for as long as possible. In the late game, you can put off cleaning the glasses until another customer sits in the same spot.
The key to earning more points is to work fast at everything, including the first part of the pour. Pour quickly at the start, then slow down so that you taper off as close to the fill line as possible. Doing so will increase the chances of making a perfect pour, netting you double the amount of tips that you’d otherwise get from a bad pour.
Educational Aspects
This game showcases some of the duties done by bartenders and highlights the importance of measuring out servings carefully and quickly in food and drinks service jobs. It also hones a player’s hand-eye coordination and time management skills.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is suitable for older children and adults. Although this game portrays the serving of alcoholic products, it focuses on managing time and does not endorse underage drinking. We recommend it for players who like fast-paced restaurant sims.
