TriFruit Game Review
TriFruit Solitaire Game Background
TriFruit Solitaire is a fruit-themed variation of the popular card game. This game is based on Tripeaks Solitaire, though it looks much different than a typical Tripeaks Solitaire card game.
Zygomatic developed this game.
How to Play TriFruit Solitaire
Use the mouse left click button to select cards from the tableau which are valued one higher or one lower than the open card atop the waste pile. The deck wraps, meaning you can lay an Ace on a King or a 2.
When no exposed cards on the tableau are value adjacent to the waste pile you can select another card from the reserves pile to the left of the waste pile.
Clear away all cards from the tableau to win. If you run out of cards and can not clear the tableau then you lose.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Stages & Cards
The game features 41 stages which are unlocked sequentially. You can earn up to a 3-star rating on each stage based on how well you perform on it.
Each stage has a unique tableau layout. In many cases cards are buried other under cards on the tableau. Sometimes the overlap shows the buried cards, and sometimes the cards are directly atop each other and you only know of the cards underneath after removing the cards above them.
Jokers look like crowns and are included in the deck in locations throughout the tableau and reserves. Jokers can be laid on any card, and allow you to lay any card atop them.
Scoring
Each card moved from the tableau to the reserve pile is worth 10 points. If you remove multiple consecutive cards in a row without grabbing a card from the reserve pile it activates a multiplier bonus where the second card is worth 20, the third card is worth 30, and so on. You do not reset the chain bonus by using a power up card. The bonus is reset whenever you beat a stage, draw from the reserves, or undo a move.
Earn 100 points for each card you have remaining in the reserves at the end of each stage.
Each move you undo costs 100 points.
Power Up Cards
After each stage you go through the store where you can buy 5 different power ups.
- Chain: increase chain bonus by 1 for 110 coins.
- Face up: temporarily show cards face up for 130 coins.
- Double score: boost your score for 150 coins.
- Joker card: get a wildcard which can be played at any time for 225 coins.
- Extra cards: get 5 extra cards for 300 coins.
You can buy as many power ups as you can afford, and your inventory carries over from level to level.
Navigation
The right rail of the game shows how many cards you have saved up for each type of power up in the lower right corner of each card type.
The far right has a pause button, shows your coin savings, highlights your current level score, and then has 3 buttons for undoing moves and controlling game sound and music.
The lower left corner of the game has a full screen mode button.
You can scroll left or right on the level select screen and replay previously beat levels.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Power Up Strategy
The best power up card to buy is the Joker as it gives you the most flexibility. If you can afford to carry multiple jokers in inventory it makes sense to in order to make a lot of progress early in the reserves so that you expose a lot of different cards on the tableau.
If you have 2 parallel paths you can pull cards from the tableau consider pulling whichever card exposes the most cards underneath it or requires the fewest consecutive card plays to be made going forward.
Parallel Paths
If you have a few cards remaining in the reserves and can go up or down on the tableau with all tableau cards exposed it is typically best to target the card that there are multiple of on the tableau, or to target the shorter chain. Two examples:
- If the tableau has 2 or 3 tens showing with no 9 or Jack cards it can make sense to take out a 10 so you have fewer of them remaining to match.
- If you see 2-3 and 5 on the tableau then pull a 4 it can make sense to take out the 5. This is because the 5 can only be removed by matching it on a 4 or a 6. The 2-3 combo can be removed by drawing an Ace, 2, 3, or 4.
Educational Aspects
This game is a simple logic based card game which can help people figure out which paths to consider and get better at estimating probabilities.
