How to Play Coffee Mahjong

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play on the right side to begin.

Match pairs of tiles by selecting one tile, then selecting another identical tile. Be careful, as some of the tiles contain identical items in different quantities. A valid pair must have an identical number of the same marks.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

Your goal is to clear the entire stack of coffee-themed tiles (stones) before the timer expires. Select a free pair of tiles to clear them from the stack. A free tile has no tile above it and at least one of its horizontal sides devoid of another tile. The game helpfully highlights the tiles that are free.

You begin the playthrough with 6 minutes and 59 seconds on the timer. As you play the game, you must clear more and more tiles. With each subsequent level, the timer decreases by 20 seconds. You will fail the level if you run out of time. After that, you can either replay the level or quit.

The game has 17 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. Your browser automatically saves your level progress. Each time you reload the game, you must choose whether to continue your previous session from the last level you’ve unlocked or start a new playthrough.

Scoring

Your score is cumulative across all the levels you’ve played. You earn 95 points for every pair of tiles you clear and an extra 30 points from every second remaining on the timer. Each time you finish or quit the game, you have the option to save your final score on the leaderboard. You can access the leaderboard by selecting High Scores on the welcome screen.

Assistance

The game offers you two methods of assistance, which you can use by pressing their buttons on the lower right corner of the screen. You can use these an unlimited number of times, but each time you do, you lose points.

Selecting the question mark button will activate a hint. Hints will highlight any random pair of valid blocks you can clear. This costs 100 points. Selecting the reset button will shuffle the stack. This costs 500 and will change the position of every tile on the stack.

Besides this, the game will also automatically shuffle all the tiles for free if you run out of valid moves.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Start removing the blocks from the sides to open up more tiles that you can pair.

In the earlier levels, consider using only the hints if you’re ever stuck. The game will shuffle the tiles automatically for free. In later levels, you may need to shuffle to get new pairs sooner.
