Tiles of Japan Game Review

Tiles of Japan Game Background

Tiles of Japan is a Japanese food themed version of Triple Mahjong.

This game was developed by Zygomatic.

How to Play Tiles of Japan

Press the Play button on the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen. Tap on a red level number to play that level.

Use the mouse left click button to select and match 3 of the same Mahjong stones to remove them from the playing field.

Basic Gameplay Advice

In ordinary Mahjong Solitaire you match 2 stones and they have to be open on at least one side with no stones atop them. In this game you match 3 stones in a tray of 7, and you only need to have the stones have no stones atop them (their sides need not be free).

Matchable tiles are shown in white, with tiles underneath them shown in a translucent gray. As you uncover tiles underneath they also become playable.

The holder at the bottom of the screen can hold a total of 7 stones before it becomes full. Each time a set of 3 is made in the tray those stones are cleared away, making room for more stones. If you fill the tray without making a set of 3 you lose the stage.

The game features 100 stages which are unlocked sequentially.

Each set of 3 stones is worth 50 points, with bonus points scored for how quickly you complete the level. Down near the bottom tray are buttons for undoing your prior move and shuffling the remaining stones. Using these features cost 10 points and 100 points respectively.

Your level score and the current level number are shown on the left side of the screen. The right side of the screen has buttons for sound control, music control, pausing the game, and full screen mode.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Anytime you can quickly make a set of 3 do so to clear stones away from the stack.

Try to keep the bottom try close to empty as much as possible.

If you have a choice between choosing a stone that will uncover more stones and one that will not you should opt to uncover stones so you have more potential matches for each subsequent move.

You can use the blurry previews of stones underneath to help you see which stones are located under many of the topmost stones.

Educational Aspects

This game can help players improve pattern matching speeds.

Player Age Recommendations

Anyone who likes Japanese culture, Japanese food, or Mahjong Solitaire games should enjoy this game.
