Orange Farm Game Review

Orange Farm Game Background

Orange Farm is a bubble shooting game themed for orange picking. Your job is to build up an orange tree farm by harvesting oranges, which you do by forming chains of 3 or more identical bubbles. Remove all the bubbles surrounding the orange to harvest it. Expand your farm by selling the harvested oranges and buying trees and upgrades.

This game was developed by DarkMitra.

How to Play

On the welcome screen, select the play button to begin. To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers.

Aim by selecting and holding. Release to shoot. Form groups of 3 or more identically colored balls to clear them from the stack. Clear all the balls surrounding the orange to harvest it and win the level.

After each level is complete, you receive a sum of oranges from every tree you have, These will be sold as-is or, if you have the machines, processed into juice or ice cream. Keep winning levels to harvest more oranges, make more money, and grow your farm.

Not everything in the game is unlocked at once. Keep leveling up to unlock more game features.

Basic Gameplay Advice

The game consists of two modes:

  • The farm-building mode takes place in the farm screen, where you can add trees, stands, and machines.
  • The game mode is a bubble shooter. Enter this mode by selecting the harvest button.

The shooter at the bottom center shows you both the ball you’re about to shoot and the next one after that. We suggest that you plan two moves ahead and find a place for both balls before shooting.

Balls connected to the stack only by a single group of balls will all fall when that group is cleared. This is the only way that stone balls can be cleared, as they match none of the other colored balls you can shoot. Clearing these load-bearing groups of balls can also make quick work of clearing the stack.

The game has a strike system that allows you a set of free moves before it adds more balls into the stack. These are represented by oranges on the bottom left corner of the screen. The number of free moves you get depends on the level; some give you 5 free moves, while others give you only 3. You use up no free move when you clear a group of balls.

Once you use up all your free moves, the game adds balls to the stack. Don’t let the stack reach the red line on the bottom of the screen. If it does, it’s game over.

You can receive extra game assistance through boosters:

  • Aim assist provides a dotted line that helps you track the path of the ball you shoot.
  • Wild card balls match any group of balls. They temporarily replace the ones you’re about to shoot.

Select the booster button on the bottom right corner to equip a booster of your choice. You receive boosters sporadically every few levels. You can also buy them from the booster shop using the coins you’ve earned.

After each round, you receive several oranges on the farm screen. The number of oranges you receive depends on the type and number of trees you have planted. Eventually, these will be sold to wandering customers, either while you remain on the farm screen or offscreen while you play.

If you have the juicer, part of your harvest goes to making juice. If you have an ice cream machine, part of your juice output goes to create ice cream. Ice cream and juice sell for much higher than oranges by themselves. It takes two oranges to create one bottle of orange juice and one bottle of orange juice to create one unit of ice cream.

Use the profits you made from the harvest to expand your farm. Select the store button on the bottom right of the farm screen to open the store screen. On the store screen, you can buy 3 types of orange tree, which have different yields. Once unlocked, you can also buy regular (and later industrial) versions of the machines for juice and ice cream and an improved version of the seller stand. When purchasing a new item, you must place it where it doesn’t overlap with an existing object. The item is only considered sold when you place it down.

You can also relocate or recycle (remove) the items you’ve placed, though you need at least one seller stand and one tree to function. Be careful when recycling; it does not give you a refund.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Locate the orange in the stack and work toward clearing the balls surrounding it. Prioritize large groups of balls over smaller ones to create a larger space to shoot. If you can’t clear the balls near the orange directly, find and clear any group of balls to waylay the addition of new ones.

Look for load-bearing balls. These are balls that serve as the only attachment point to other balls. This will clear out more balls without needing to create more groups.

Sometimes, the best group to clear isn’t accessible from a direct shot. Consider shooting from the sides to ricochet the ball into the group you want to clear. Whenever possible, use the aim assist booster to help you make the shot.

Sometimes, the opening balls aren’t always ideal. If this is the case, feel free to quit and try again. Select the pause button on the bottom left corner to pause the game, then select the home button from the pause menu to return to the farm screen.

Whenever possible, try to clear the stack evenly. Creating a pile on one side can end the level prematurely.

Educational Aspects

This game hones visual aiming skills and teaches spatial problem solving, forward planning, and space management. Players must plan around each shot and find a way to shoot groups of balls without causing more balls to appear. They must also plan the placement of the trees, machines, and booths with care to make the most of the limited space on the farm screen.

Player Age Recommendations

This game is suitable for players ranging from older children to adults. We recommend this game for players who like both simple space management tycoon games and bubble shooting games.
