Feed the Animals is a Mahjong Solitaire game themed after animals. Pair each animal tile with the tile depicting the food they eat. Each tile paired must be connected by a path that has no more than two right-angle degree bends. Clear all the tiles from the board before the timer expires to beat each level.

How to Play Feed the Animals

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play on the upper right side to begin.

Select either an animal or a food item tile, then select the matching tile to clear them from the screen.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

The game plays like a standard Mahjong Connect game. Select pairs of matching tiles that aren’t obstructed to clear them from the screen. The line connecting the two matching tiles must have no more than two right-angle bends; adjacent tiles can also be cleared. The lines can form outside the board but cannot go through crates.

Unlike other Mahjong Connect games, this one has you connect two different yet related tiles based on the game’s theme. You must match each animal with the type of food it eats.

Should you run out of valid matches, the game automatically shuffles the board with no deduction to your score.

Levels

The game has 10 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. You can’t replay levels you’ve previously beaten. Each time you reload the game, you can either start from the first level or resume from the last level you’ve beaten. You web browser automatically saves your game progress.

Each level gives you 7 minutes to solve the puzzle. As the game progresses, you’re given more tiles of various types to clear, increasing the difficulty per level. You will fail the level if you run out of time.

Scoring

Each pair you form is worth 50 points. You also earn a chain bonus for every consecutive pair you clear within seconds of one another. The bonus begins at 30, increases to 60, and so on for every pair you add to the chain. Work fast; the chain resets after a few seconds of being idle. Finally, you earn 5 extra points for every second left on the level timer.

Assistance

The game offers two assistance options, which you can use by selecting their respective buttons on the lower right side of the screen. Select the question mark button to get a hint; this will highlight a random valid pair of tiles on the board. Select the double arrow button to manually shuffle the board. Manual shuffles will change the arrangement of every tile and crate on the board.

Shuffles and hints can be used as many times as you need but will cost you points. Hints cost 50 points while manual shuffles cost 200 points.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Make the easiest matches first to open up the board and make way for much harder matches. We recommend that you start with the corner pieces first; these are the easiest items to match.

If you’re ever stuck, feel free to use a few hints. Hints cost the equivalent of 10 seconds of time. By using a hint, you may save more time and get a higher level-end bonus than if you didn’t.

Select matching pairs that are far apart to accumulate more points through a combo bonus. The brief idle timer doesn’t start until the tiles actually meet, so use this time to make more pairs to increase the chain. Unlike other similar Mahjong Connect games with this mechanism, the time you have available is remarkably short, so you’d need to plan out a chain in advance to get truly large bonuses.

Educational Aspects

This game tests a player’s knowledge of zoology, specifically that of what specific animals tend to eat. It also hones a player’s pattern recognition and visual searching skills.
