How to Play Mahjong Match

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play on the upper right side.

Make a match by selecting one free tile, then selecting another free tile elsewhere on the stack. Free tiles have no tile above them and no tile beside them on at least one horizontal side. The game helpfully grays out the non-free tiles.

Basic Gameplay Advice

The game’s basic rules are similar to regular Mahjong Solitaire. Select pairs of identical or related free tiles to clear them. Chinese character tiles must be matched with identical tiles, whereas object tiles must be matched with object tiles depicting related items (e.g. guns and bullets, cameras and photographs). Finish the level by clearing the entire stack before the timer expires.

Should you fail to finish the stack in time, you will fail the level. After this, you can either quit or replay the level. Quitting will clear your level progress and give you the option to save your score to the leaderboard.

The game’s 25 levels are unlocked sequentially. You cannot replay previously beaten levels. Each time you reload the game, you’re given the option to start from the first level or resume from the last level you’ve unlocked. Your web browser automatically saves your level progress.

You earn 100 points for every pair you clear. In addition, you also receive an extra 30 points for every second left on the timer. Your score is cumulative across every level. You can save your score to the leaderboard upon finishing every level or after quitting. View the leaderboard by selecting High Scores on the welcome screen.

The game provides two assistance options to help you if you’re stumped. You can use them as many times as you need at the cost of your points. These appear as buttons on the center right of the screen. Select the question mark button to activate a hint for 300 points. This will reveal a random valid pair anywhere on the screen. Select the double arrows to manually shuffle every tile onscreen for 500 points.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Clear the stack from the edges and from the taller columns first to open it up. This will allow you to make more and more matches as the game progresses.

Should you run out of matches, consider waiting until you run out of pairs to make rather than manually shuffling the tiles. Manual shuffles have a hefty score penalty, whereas automatic shuffles are free. Save paying for shuffles for when you are close to running out of time.
