Pixel Painter Game Review
Pixel Painter Game Background
This is a simple color-by-numbers pixel art game. Fill in each of the squares with the appropriate color to form the image. This game was developed by Overhype.
How to Play Pixel Painter
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers.
On the welcome screen, choose Select Level or Random Level to begin. Choosing Select Level opens the level selection screen, while choosing Random Level opens any level at random.
Select a color from the center right edge, then select a numbered square to color it in. You can hold down your selection to color in multiple squares of the same number. You cannot color in a square in a color that doesn’t match its number.
Use the plus button to zoom in and the minus button to zoom out. Use the arrows to move around the image.
Basic Gameplay Advice
The game is a lot more forgiving than other coloring book-style games. For starters, the colors won’t spill over, so you can easily hold down your click or tap and color in only the squares that match the number. Once a numbered square is colored in, you can’t replace its color (nor would you need to).
What we recommend is to choose a color, then select the screen in a horizontal motion to color in all the squares of that row. While you can do this in any order, it makes sense to do it in numerical order.
The game does not save your finished picture when you finish it. If you want to save your finished work, we recommend taking a screenshot of it with your device.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Whenever you need to be more precise, select the plus button to zoom in. This is especially important for larger pictures where it could be hard to keep track of the image.
Consider working on the zeroes first. They’re normally colored white and indicate the background.
If you want to get an idea of what you’re painting, zoom out. Due to the nature of pixel art, it’s often easier to identify and appreciate when it’s smaller.
Educational Aspects
This game introduces younger players to color and how it works to create images. It can also help refine basic motor skills.
Player Age Recommendations
While it is suited for all ages, this game is especially suited for younger players pre-school aged and below who might find conventional coloring book games too difficult.
