Valentie 3D Mahjong Game Review
Valentine 3D Mahjong Game Background
Valentine 3D Mahjong is a Valentine’s Day-themed isometric Mahjong Solitaire game. Match identical pairs of cubes (stones) to remove them from the stack. Keep removing pairs of cubes until you’ve removed the entire stack. This game was developed by Zygomatic.
How to Play Valentine 3D Mahjong
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select Play on the welcome screen to begin a standard, timed version of the game. To play without a time limit, select Untimed.
To remove a pair of stones, select one, then select another, identical one elsewhere on the stack. The stones must be free to be selected. This means that they must have at least two free sides and no adjacent stones on those sides. Each time you select a stone, you can see a full picture of it on the upper left of the screen. Select the large rotate buttons near the lower left and lower right corners to turn the stack around.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Modes & Levels
The game has two modes: timed and untimed. In timed mode, you have a limited amount of time to clear the stack. The amount of time granted varies as the game progresses. You begin with 4 minutes and 20 seconds on the first level and get more as the levels become more complex. If you run out of time, it’s game over. The untimed mode has no time limit. You are free to take as much time as you need.
Both game modes are divided into 40 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. Each time you start a new session, you begin at the first level. Your web browser automatically saves your level progress. Each time you reload the game, you have the option of either resetting your progress or resuming from the last level you’ve unlocked. The game ends either when you finish all the levels or if you hit a game over.
Scoring
Your earn 100 points for each pair of stones you clear. On the timed version of the game, you’ll also receive an extra 30 points for every second left on the timer upon finish a level.
Your score is cumulative; each level’s score is added to your total. Once you finish the game or end in a game over, you can save your final score in the leaderboard.
Assistance
You can use hints and shuffles to help you. These are available near the right center edge of the screen. Select the question mark button on the left to activate a hint. This will reveal to you an identical pair of free stone from anywhere on the stack. Select the shuffle button on the right to change the location of every stone in the stack.
Using hints and shuffles will cost you points. Each hint costs 150 points and each shuffle costs 500 points. If you run out of pairs to make, the game will shuffle the stack automatically with no score penalty.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
To open up the stack, start by removing stones from the corners of the wider rows.
A few stones are quite difficult to see due to either the angle of the stack or a wider row blocking out the view. Fortunately, you needn’t see the entire stone to select it, as its full appearance will be shown on the top right corner. Likewise, turn the stack around frequently and work through it from multiple sides. A stone remains selected even after you rotate it out of view, meaning you can pair it with free stones that are behind it.
If you must rely on help, choose a hint over a shuffle. It’s often easier to let the game shuffle the stack automatically as it comes with no penalty. On top of that, hints can cost less than shuffles assuming you don’t use them often.
