Food Merge Game Review
Food Merge Game Background
Food Merge is a culinary-themed tile-merging game. Merge two or more identical tiles by laying them beside each other on the grid. Keep laying and merging tiles until the entire grid is filled up.
The game was developed by TegaGame.
How to Play Food Merge
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select Play at the center of the welcome screen to begin.
To lay down a food tile, select any of the empty spaces within the 5 x 5 grid. The game automatically merges any of the adjacent identical tiles in the direction of the one you laid. This will free up the spaces they previously occupied.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Unlike in 2048 and similar games, the tiles you merge grow in increments of 1, regardless of how many of them you merge at the same time. A pair of tiles valued at 1 will turn into a 2 tile, a pair of 2s a 3 tile, and so on.
The game only lets you lay down the numbers 1, 2, and 3. These are determined at random each time. Every other number (from 4 onwards) must be derived from chain reactions where various pairs of numbers merge into others in a single move.
You earn points each time you merge a pair of tiles; each tile pair is worth 1 point. You receive bonus points by merging several groups of tiles in a chain. The game does not save your best score.
The game ends when the entire grid is full.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
The trick to this game is tile placement. Pay close attention to the way the tiles merge and remember it as you look for a place to put each tile. It takes a bit of foresight, luck, and patience to get the placement right.
What you should avoid, however, is forming a checkerboard pattern throughout the field. To successfully pull off a chain merge for values larger than 3, you need at least two free spaces between the tiles you want to merge. Checkerboard patterns, in this case, have only one free space surrounded by tiles, which if allowed to spread will keep you from merging larger tiles and eventually lead to a game over.
The game has no time limit. Take all the time you need in placing each tile to ensure ideal placement.

This game hones players’ spatial thinking skills and encourages them to employ forward thinking.
