Basic Gameplay Advice
Basic Rules
Your goal is to clear all the tiles from the stack by matching pairs of free identical tiles one by one. A free tile has no tile above it and on at least one adjacent side. The game helpfully highlights all free tiles and grays out non-free ones.
This game has gravity. The moment you clear your first pair of tiles, the rest of the tiles fall down to the bottom of the game screen. Removing tiles toward the center will bring tiles right above them. The gravity will affect which tiles will remain free during the opening phase of the game, so choose your opening moves with care.
The game’s timer is represented by a bar on the top of the screen. The timer has lines indicating how many stars you can score. If the timer bar decays past a line, you lose a star. If the timer is completely empty, you will fail the level. From there, you can choose to replay the level or quit the game. Quitting the game will clear your previous game data.
Levels & Scoring
The game has 60 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. You can replay any of the levels you’ve previously beaten. Replay levels to beat your previous score or star level.
You receive an individual score for every level in the game, plus a cumulative score across the entire game. Each pair you clear is worth 10 points. Clearing number tiles will not add points to your score directly but will multiply the score by the value on them. For instance, a pair of 2x number tiles will double the value of your current score. You also receive points based on the number of time remaining on the timer.
Replaying a level will replace your previous high score and star level only if you’ve beaten your previous record. Your web browser automatically saves your level progress, star ratings, and best scores.
If you finish all the levels or quit the game after failing a level, you can choose to submit your score on the leaderboard. Access the leaderboard by selecting the High Scores button on the welcome screen.
Assistance
The game offers two help options: shuffles and hints. You can use these as many times as you need. However, they cost points, so use them only in great need. Select their respective buttons on the menu to use them.
- Hints will show you any random pair of valid tiles on the stack. It costs 300 points.
- Manual shuffles rearrange the whole stack, which allows new valid pairs to form. It costs 500 points.
You can view the number of available moves on the menu on the right side of the screen. Once you run out of moves, the game automatically shuffles all the tiles on the stack without penalty. The game also automatically shows a random valid pair onscreen for free if you go a long time without clearing anything.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Choose your opening moves carefully. Tiles that appear free at the start of the game may suddenly become locked when the gravity is applied. Don’t forget to pay attention to gravity. Removing a tile may block a previously free tile you could’ve cleared earlier.
Try to clear the numbered tiles later than all the other tiles. You’ll earn more points if you apply their multipliers to a much higher score.
