Christmas Triple Mahjong is a Christmas-themed variation on the classic Mahjong Solitaire formula. Instead of clearing two identical tiles, you must instead form and clear groups of three. Clear the entire stack before the timer expires by removing trios of free tiles one at a time.

How to Play Christmas Triple Mahjong

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play near the center to begin.

Select one tile, then select, two other identical free ones to clear them from the screen. Free tiles have no tile above them and at least one horizontal side devoid of an adjacent tile.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

The game is a variation of Mahjong Solitaire. Remove groups of identical free tiles to clear them from the screen. The game helpfully grays out any tiles that are unfree. Unlike most Mahjong Solitaire games, you must select groups of three tiles instead of two, so you must check if three free tiles are available before attempting to clear any.

The sole exception to the “identical tile” rule are category tiles (seasons and flowers). These do not look identical, but can be grouped with others of their category.

Besides clearing every tile on the stack, you can also win if all but the last 3 tiles are cleared and these remaining tiles are arranged in a way that they can’t otherwise be off when shuffled.

The game has a time limit. The game’s time limit starts with 2 minutes and 5 seconds on the clock on the first level, which increases in every subsequent one. Should you fail to clear all the tiles when it expires, it’s game over. You have two options upon failing a level. The first is to replay the level. You can also quit the level; this will clear your previous game progress.

Levels & Scoring

The game has 10 levels, which you must unlock sequentially. Your web browser automatically saves your level progress. Each time you reload the game, you have the option to start a new session or to resume from the level you last unlocked. Each level has more tiles than the one before it.

Scores are cumulative across every level you play. You earn 100 points for every trio of tiles you clear and and an extra 30 points for the remaining seconds left on the timer. You can save your score on the leaderboard upon finishing every level or after quitting upon failing. Access the leaderboard by selecting High Scores on the welcome screen.

Assistance

The game has two assistance options, which can be accessed multiple times by pressing their respective buttons on the right side of the game screen. Both options deduct points from your score each time you use them. Hints cost 200 points and highlight a trio of available tiles anywhere on the stack. Shuffles cost 300 points when used manually and rearrange every tile onscreen.

Should you run out of possible moves, the game will rearrange the entire stack for free.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

The game adds an extra layer of difficulty by giving you an extra tile to select. Scan the stack for free trios of identical tiles (and the location of the non-free tiles that have free counterparts).

As always, clear tiles in an order that allows you to free up more and more of the stack. Usually, this means starting from the top and the edges.

Save on points by relying on assistance only when time is of the essence. In particular, rely on the free auto shuffle until time becomes a premium due to the point penalty.
