Monsters and Cake is a pastry-themed Connect 3 game. Connect 3 or more identical monster tiles on the hexagonal grid to get the corresponding monster above the grid to take a bite of the cake. Have the monsters eat the required number of cakes before the to beat each level.

How to Play Monsters and Cake

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select the play button at the center to begin. You can also get a short play-along tutorial by selecting the information button to the lower right of the play button.

Select a monster tile, then select another adjacent identical monster tile to connect them. You can connect monster tiles horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. You can also deselect tiles to change the direction of the line you make. Connect chains of 3 or more identical tiles to clear them from the grid.

Basic Gameplay Advice

You begin with five hungry monsters and a whole cake on the top row and a hexagonal grid of monster tiles occupying the rest of the screen.

Clear identical monster tiles from the grid in chains of 3 or more to have its equivalent monster on the top of the screen take a bite out of the cake. The longer the chain of monster tiles, the larger the bite the monster takes out of the cake and the more points you earn. Should you run out of valid connections, the game will automatically shuffle the monster tiles on the grid.

You receive at least 13 points for every row you clear, with longer rows yielding more points. Your web browser automatically saves your best score.

Keep clearing monster tiles until the required number of cakes to finish the level are consumed. The number of cakes you need to clear increases as the game goes on. Beat the level before the timer expires; if you run out of time, it’s game over. Keep playing through as many levels as you can.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Finish off the cakes quickly by forming long chains of monster tiles. Think outside the box whenever you connect large groups of tiles. Sometimes, switching back and connecting from a different angle can let you connect more tiles together. Likewise, if you can’t connect all the desired identical tiles in a single path, choose the path that has more tiles.

Should you start running out of long chains, clear groups of three until you start forming new chains or until you run out of valid chains. Running out of moves will force a shuffle, which will often create new opportunities to make long chains again.
