X-Trial Racing Game Review
X-Trial Racing Game Background
X-Trial Racing is a stunt course motorcycle racing game. Drive a motorcycle down a perilous course and get it to the finish line without crashing. Accelerate quickly to overcome hills and cross chasms and land safely by tilting the bike forward or backward to keep it parallel with the ground.
The game was developed by Demonte Maximiliano and Enrique Magaña of QKY Games Studio. It also has a more difficult sequel: X-Trial Racing Mountain Adventure.
How to Play X-Trial Racing
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers.
To open the level selection screen, select Play at the center of the welcome screen. Choose a level to get started. Each level starts with a general view of the entire course; memorize this as well as you can.
On a desktop, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move. Accelerate by pressing the up arrow and slow down by pressing the down arrow key. Turn counterclockwise by pressing the left arrow and clockwise by pressing the right arrow.
On a touchscreen device, tap on the arrows on the bottom row with your fingers. The counterclockwise and clockwise controls appear on the bottom left corner. The accelerator and break buttons appear on the bottom right corner.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Your goal is to reach the finish line as quickly as possible. Accelerate as often as needed to move through the course and surmount obstacles. Tilt the bike forward and backward as needed as you move through the air to ensure that you land parallel to the course. It is important that you remain parallel to the course as much as possible while traveling on it.
The game has 30 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. You can replay any of the levels you’ve already beaten. Your web browser automatically saves your game progress and best star ratings. Select the clear button on the center of the welcome screen to erase your game data; this cannot be undone.
Your performance in each of the levels depends on your speed. To earn a 3-star rating, you must finish the level within a specific time span. You can only get a maximum of 3 stars in each level, which means if you get a 3-rating after earning 2 stars previously, you’ll only add 1 star to your total.
Besides acting as a level rating, your star rating also serves as in-game currency. Use the stars you’ve earned in total to unlock new bike models. Each model has its own stats that make it suitable for some types of terrain over others. There are 8 bike models to unlock:
- Neon Ray (3 stars)
- Tiger (4 stars)
- Akira (8 stars)
- Panther (10 stars)
- Radioactive (10 stars)
- Chopper (10 stars)
- Hot Fuzz (15 stars)
- Wild Cat (15 stars)
You will fail the level if you spin while on the course or if you fall off the course and into the abyss. Each time you do, you must restart the level.
You earn a trophy by accomplishing the following actions:
- Finishing a specific number of levels (5, 10, 15, 20, and 30)
- Unlocking 1, 3, and 6 motorcycles
- Collecting 30 and 60 stars
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Your goal is to reach the finish line as fast as possible without crashing. Accelerating alone is not enough; you risk flipping if you move too fast. Step off the accelerator once you’re airborne to give yourself time to slow down before landing; landing and gaining speed increases your chances of flipping over and crashing significantly. Keep yourself as level as possible as you land.
The key to maintaining speed without crashing is to stay level. When faced with a slope, accelerate to jump and using the rotate buttons to get yourself level before landing. You can make a full rotation and not crash by landing parallel to the path.
Often, you’ll find yourself needing to slow down in some parts of a course and speeding up in another. Determining where these areas are is an exercise in trial and error. Replay the level as many times as you need until you get it right.
To get a higher star rating on a level, it’s sometimes better to save it for later rather than immediately trying to replay it. Play a few levels to unlock a new bike model that might be better suited to the level you left off.
Educational Aspects
This game hones a player’s hand-eye coordination, motor skills, and touch sensitivity. Its controls favor careful movements over raw force; players must balance both speed and finesse to reach the finish line quickly.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is suited for players school-aged and above. We recommend this for players who like physics-based driving games.
