Warship Game Review
Warship Game Background
Warship is a single-player online virtual naval battle game themed loosely after the popular board game Battleship.
Demonisblack published this game on March 14, 2024.
How to Play Warship
Press the blue PLAY button in the lower center of the welcome screen to start the game.
When you first start the game you can adjust the board settings, then tap the START button at the bottom of the board settings screen.
Next you place your ships on the board and press the READY button.
Board Settings
- Ship design: switch between 5 different aesthetic designs which have no impact on play strategy.
- Board size: 10×10 grid of 100 cells, 12×12 grid of 144 cells, or 15×15 grid of 225 cells. Larger grids take longer to play.
- Ships: anywhere between 1 and 10 ships. 5 is the standard number.
- Sink Requirement: sink anywhere from 1 ship to win, up on through to requiring all ships be sunk.
- Mode: in standard players take one shot at a time, whereas in advanced players shoot from each of their ships all at once, and have their shots per turn decrease each time one of their ships gets destroyed.
Placing Ships
You can place ships manually one at a time, or use the arrows button in the upper right to randomly mix the ship placements. When placing ships manually you drag them into position by selecting them with your mouse left click button and dragging your mouse. Double click on a ship to rotate it clockwise 90 degrees.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Guess which cells you believe ships to be placed on and click on them to shoot at them. When you have located a ship hit adjacent cells in each of the 4 cardinal directions and follow the path of destruction until you have destroyed the ship.
Repeat the process until all of their ships are destroyed. Defeat their Navy before they beat yours and you win the game.
Games are played as a one-off battle against an automated computer player rather than against another human player or as a “best of” series.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
When placing your ships it is best to have at least a single cell of open space between adjacent ships so that your enemy does not locate the second ship when they are trying to find out the direction the first ship is oriented.
One of the best ways to play is to go at a diagonal across the board, moving one cell vertically and horizontally at a time, until you locate a ship. When you find a ship keep shooting in that area until the ship is destroyed.
Your opponent has the same ships you do, so after you destroy some of their ships you can use the differences between your fleet and their exposed fleet to figure out what ships they have remaining and how far to skip between shot placements (e.g. a ship that is at least 4 cells long can have you skip 3 spots between each shot attempt).
Educational Aspects
This is a simple strategy game which can help kids consider both the impacts of luck and how to manipulate the odds in their favor through strong gameplay strategy.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is fun for players of all ages. Younger players will likely find it more entertaining than older players, while older players might get a sense of childhood nostalgia playing it.
