Warship Royale Game Review
Warship Royale Game Background
Warship Royale is a single-player online virtual naval battle game themed loosely after the popular board game Battleship.
Demonisblack published this game on March 27, 2024.
How to Play Warship Royale
Press the brown PLAY button in the lower center of the welcome screen to start the game.
When you first start the game you can adjust the board settings, then tap the START button at the bottom of the board settings screen.
Next you place your ships on the board and press the READY button.
Board Settings
- Players: choose to play a game with 2 to 6 players on it. All players other than you are computer players.
- Ship design: switch between 5 different aesthetic designs which have no impact on play strategy.
- Board size: 10×10 grid of 100 cells, 12×12 grid of 144 cells, or 15×15 grid of 225 cells. Larger grids take longer to play.
- Mode: play in standard or advanced modes (difference detailed in the sections below).
Standard Mode
- 2-4 players get 5 ship cards, whereas 5-6 players get 4 ship cards
- All players must discard 2 of the ship cards, then lay the remaining ships into play.
- In standard mode players roll a die and then get that number of shots.
- When you completely destroy a ship you get its card, which may unlock powers like a bonus shot that can be used immediately.
Advanced Mode
- Advanced is similar to standard or basic mode, with a few exceptions.
- Players can not discard the submarine or airship card.
- Players can use the layers button to view submarines below the surface of the water and switch back to see ships on the surface.
- When you hit ships it normally creates a red mark. If the mark is orange that means there are two overlapping ships on the cell, placed on different layers.
- Players can use sonar once per game, provided their submarine has not yet been sunk. After a player chooses to use sonar or not they roll the die and take all of their shots at once.
- When you sink a submarine you get a bonus sonar sweep. You can also get bonus shops when sinking enemy ships.
Placing Ships
Ships are automatically placed in a variety of positions. You choose which of the placements you like based on discarding the other placements.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Press the roll dice button to roll the die, then select each cell you wish to shoot at. Guess which cells you believe ships to be placed on and click on them to shoot at them. When you have located a ship hit adjacent cells in each of the 4 cardinal directions and follow the path of destruction until you have destroyed the ship.
Repeat the process until all of their ships are destroyed. Defeat their Navy before they beat yours and you win the game.
When you have used all of your turns press the end turn button, or select a bonus card to use a bonus shot.
Games are played as a one-off battle against automated computer players rather than against another human player or as a “best of” series.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
One of the best ways to play is to go at a diagonal across the board, moving one cell vertically and horizontally at a time, until you locate a ship. When you find a ship keep shooting in that area until the ship is destroyed.
Be careful not to shoot too closely to your own ships until you have cleared out other areas, as you don’t want a nearby hit leading to enemies hitting your ship.
If your submarine starts to take damage use sonar as soon as you can to get value out of it. If there are exposed enemy ships which are partially damaged it is worth using the bonus cards to take them out as soon as possible so that you earn additional bonus cards and so you can quickly take out a competitor, preventing them from being able to shoot at you.
When selecting which ships to discard be sure not to leave ships which overlap each other or else it will be easy for competitors to take out multiple ships quickly by finding either of them.
Educational Aspects
This is a simple strategy game which can help kids consider both the impacts of luck and how to manipulate the odds in their favor through strong gameplay strategy.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is fun for players of all ages. Younger players will likely find it more entertaining than older players, while older players might get a sense of childhood nostalgia playing it.
