Basic Gameplay Advice
Levels
This game has 10 stages which are unlocked sequentially. Each stage consists of 3 distinct waves.
Each stage consists of a number of discrete waves. If you use fewer than the total allotted battle points on a wave you carry them forward to the next wave.
Beat all 3 waves to complete the level and unlock the next. If you lose a wave you lose the level and must restart the level from the beginning of the first wave.
You have 10 fighting positions to use per wave. You do not need to use all of the placements on each wave.
Fighters
Each wave gives you a limited number of battle points to spend and characters which you can use.
- Infantry come in both basic and shielded variation. They do melee attack and cost 1 or 2 battle points respectively.
- Spearmen are similar to shielded infantry, though they have greater attack range and cost 3 battle points.
- Morning star men are stronger than spearmen, also having a shield but doing more damage and costing 4 battle points.
- Archers and crossbowmen do range attacks, but have limited defensive capabilities. Archers cost 2 battle points while crossbowmen cost 4 battle points.
- Axemen are the most powerful fighters in the game. They stun the enemies they hit with a high-damage attack and cost 8 battle points each.
- Dogs come in 3 sizes, with bigger dogs doing more damage and having a stronger defense. The largest dog also stuns upon attack. The small dogs cost 1 battle point, the medium dogs cost 3 battle points, and the large dog costs 6 battle points.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
The main strategy to beat this game is to configure your forces so that you are using as many of the slots available as you can, and you configure them so that you use up all of your available hit points.
As a general rule of thumb, if you have similar hit points to spend as your opponent you typically want a somewhat similar army with more men which are slightly weaker to the same strength each. When this philosophy does not work (say on a wave with 2 morning star men and few hit points to spend) it may make sense to intentionally have your forces unbalanced with multiple spearmen attacking a morning star man using a weapon that is longer than the morning star man has.
In general melee attackers are typically better than range attackers. The exception is when you get to the last level or two and the initial opponents you face are tanks. In those instances it can be useful to have a lot of crossbowmen firing upon enemies from afar while a few strong troops do melee battle.
Forces which stun the opponent are a force multiplier as they allow other fighters to attack the stunned opponent while they are dazed, and the stunned opponent misses some of their attack turns.
On the tenth and final stage you can carry over many hit points from the first 2 rounds into the third round. A mix of infantry with shield, crossbowmen, morning star men, and spearmen can have you save over 20 hit points from the first round into the second. In the second round you can use large dogs, axe men, and morning star men to win while using under 60 points, meaning you carry over the 20+ points from the first round along with some from the second round to give you over 70 hit points to use in the final round. On the final round you can mix axe men and the large dogs in such a mix that almost perfectly spends your remaining credit to the last point.
