Basic Gameplay Advice
Levels
This game has 30 stages which are unlocked sequentially. The game also features an endless survival mode which is unlocked after completing the first 10 stages.
Players must survive all the waves of robot attacks on each stage to advance to the next. Some robots drop coins which can be collected after you defeat them.
On each level players can collect up to 3 stars by picking them up. Stars appear after you destroy select robots and missiles.
Indicators
Across the top of the game from left to right:
- Coin savings
- Health
- Wave progress
- Pause
- Volume control
Enemies
The game starts off with walking robots and missiles, then as you advance there are more obstacles.
When missiles are about to appear there is a warning sign on the lower side of the screen they are coming in from. They come in on the same vertical level the indicator appears.
Some enemies may require multiple shots. Some also hop and require you to time your shots to hit them while you are on the same vertical plane.
- Starting on stage 5 the floor tiles at the bottom can have spikes come out, with red light indicators warning they are about to appear. You can not defeat the spikes and must avoid them by staying on either side or jumping over them.
- Starting on stage 9 you face flying robots which shoot energy beams at you.
- Starting on stage 13 spinning blades appear up through the floor and move horizontally across the screen. You can not defeat the blades and must jump over them.
- Starting on stage 19 bombs which drop from the ceiling and move toward you appear on some stages.
- Starting on stage 24 you face a green robot which alternately jumps and walks along the ground.
Characters
This game features 7 different characters. The first is unlocked for free, with the other characters available for purchase with the in-game currency.
Some characters have multiple hit points, have a spreadshot, can jump multiple times in a single go, as well as shoot back and forth to minimize lateral position movement. After unlocking a particular character you can switch between it and any other character before any level. Simply tap on the $ button like you are buying a character and then use the horizontal arrows to scroll through to the character you wish to play as.
Character | Cost | Shots | Lives | Jumps |
---|---|---|---|---|
Old Rick | free | 1 | 1 | 1 |
Mad | 15 | 2 | 1 | 2 |
Johnny B. | 30 | 3 | 2 | 2 |
Red | 50 | 1 | 2 | 2 |
T. | 75 | 2 | 3 | 2 |
Michelle | 75 | 1 | 3 | 2 |
Spec Ops | 75 | 3 | 3 | 2 |
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
You do not have to unlock all of the characters in the order they appear. Old Rick is weak, so it makes sense to upgrade to Mad as soon as possible. From there the Johnny B. upgrade also makes sense, though after that it can make sense to go straight to the Spec Ops character as your next upgrade.
The characters with a spreadshot (like Johnny B. and Sec Ops) give you more margin for error when shooting inbound rockets. Some enemies which are stronger may take multiple hits to defeat. In some cases you can ensure you are close to an enemy so you hit them harder if you have something like spreadshot enabled.
If you are struggling to collect all 3 stars from a stage it can make sense to just play through the remainder of the game and then come back later to improve your star rating.
In general it is best to try to stay close to the middle of the screen most of the time so that you have time to react to enemies coming from either side along with 2 ways to move.
Each time you play a particular stage the enemy pattern on it is the same, so you can use your memory to plan out parts of stages you find difficult.
Early in the game after you have a character with multiple jumps unlocked it can be useful to be a bit jump happy while playing through the game, though by the time you get about half way through the game it helps to memorize the level pattern and minimize extra jumps, as it is easy to accidentally hit floor spikes or a moving blade if you overjump.
Educational Aspects
This game helps players improve hand eye coordination.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is fun for all ages, though younger players who may not be acclimated to gaming might find the rapid timing requirements a bit frustrating.
