Team Kaboom is a pixel-themed retro-style platform shooting survival game. Shoot every approaching enemy before they reach you. Defeat enemies with guns to level up and survive for as long as you can.

How to Play Team Kaboom

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play to begin.

On a desktop, use the keyboard to control your character. Press the X key to jump; press twice to double jump. Press the left and right arrow keys to move horizontally. Press the C key to shoot and to continue to the next level after beating the boss.

On a touchscreen device, tap on the on-screen controls at the bottom row of the game screen to move. The movement pad is shown on the bottom left corner while the jump and shoot buttons are on the bottom right corner.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Overview

Your goal in this game is to take out all the enemies onscreen before they get to you. To beat each level, you must confront and defeat the level boss, an enemy that carries a large gun.

You start each level with 3 lives, which are replenished every time you complete each level. Each time an enemy touches or shoots you, you lose a life. You will also lose a life if you fall down the chasm at the bottom of the screen. Lose all your lives and the game ends.

Each time you lose a life, you reappear at the center of the level. Move quickly to avoid losing multiple lives in rapid succession.

Enemies

The majority of the enemies you encounter do not have guns. You must either shoot them from a distance or evade them. We do, however, recommend taking them out before they get too close to you. Enemies with ranged attacks are especially dangerous. You must deal with them quickly or evade them by hopping to a different platform.

Enemies possess a power bar above them that indicates their health. Those with red power bars go down once their bar is empty. Those with green power bars must have their bars cleared twice; after losing all their points, their bar turns red. The bosses have 4 power bars (blue, yellow, green, and red) that must all be cleared to defeat them.

Unlike your character, enemies can fall into the bottom chasm and reappear on top.

Power ups

Crates appear throughout the levels and contain power ups. Collect the contents of each crate as they appear by running toward them. Each crate equips with you with a random power up, which is a temporary weapon that you can use against your foes. The length of time left on your power up is indicated by a status bar above your character.

The game’s power ups are as follows:

• Knives do a lot of damage but can only be used up close, making them ideal for weaker enemies
• Dynamite sticks can be tossed from a distance. They explode on enemies.
• Bazookas fire one shot at a time. The shots they fire create a lot of damage.
• Machine guns fire a constant stream of shots.

After you collect a power up crate, the game generates a new one elsewhere onscreen.

Levels & Scoring

You begin each playthrough at the first level. Beating the level requires defeating the boss. Play through as many levels as possible.

You earn points from each enemy you kill. Most are worth 20 points each, though larger ones are worth 60 points. Bosses are worth 200 points each. Your web browser automatically saves your high score. You can compare your final and high scores on the game over screen.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Most of the time, the best place to stand is on one of the bottom platform. Choose a side right under the ledge above and shoot from them. Once you’ve mastered this, you can often beat several levels in a row. Camping on the lower platforms provides you with a number of benefits offered by the distance it provides. For one, you’re given ample time to adjust to each new foe that appears. You can also scope out and snipe at enemies where they can’t reach you. In particular, it allows you to wear down powerful opponents like the boss long before they reach you.

Save the boxes for later. Often, you are well-equipped enough to deal with smaller barrages of enemies.

Should you die at any given time, try to immediately return to your ideal starting point as soon as you are able.

Player Age Recommendations

This game is suited for older school-aged players and above. While it shows some pixelated cartoon violence and depicts weapon use, it otherwise has no other adult content. We recommend this game for players who enjoy retro-styled shooting and survival games.
