Snakes and Ladders Game Review
Snakes and Ladders Game Background
Snakes and Ladders is a version of the classic boardgame of the same name. Take turns rolling dice with your opponents to move through the board. Landing on a ladder allows you to move up while landing on a snake brings you further down. Be the first to reach the finish line at the top of the board to win.
This version of the game was developed by RavalMatic.
How to Play Snakes and Ladders
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select the play button to open the player selection screen. From the player selection screen, select the mode of play, then select OK to begin. You can choose to play against a friend or against a human opponent.
Select the dice on the bottom right corner of the screen to roll it.
Basic Gameplay Advice
A spinning wheel at the opening determines which player goes first. The two players are either green or red. If playing with a friend, we recommend that you choose which color either of you will be playing as before you begin.
You begin at a 10 x 10 square strewn with snakes and ladders. Roll the dice to move. Your piece will automatically move the number of spaces indicated by the dice roll. If you roll a 6, you get to roll the dice another time. If you land on an ordinary space (including the tail of a snake or the top of a ladder), your piece stays there until the next roll. If you land on the bottom of a ladder, you move up to the space on top of the ladder. If you land on a snake’s head, you must move down to the space at the snake’s tail.
Repeat this process in turns with your opponent until one of you reaches the end space. You must reach the end space with a roll that has the exact number of moves needed to get there. If you roll a number of spaces higher than what’s needed, you must move back the extra number of spaces.
This game is driven entirely by the luck of the draw, so strategy is largely a non-issue.
Educational Aspects
The game teaches an important lesson of how certain things are only advantageous depending on the circumstances. For instance, in normal dice games, getting high numbers is often a good thing. But in this game, a high roll may not always be the best one for your situation. Getting a five is meaningless if the last square you step on is a snake, while a one is good if that’s all you need to reach the last space.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is suitable for players school-aged and above. We recommend this for people who enjoy classic board games. The game is best played with a companion and is a great way to bond with friends and family members.
