Relic Splatter Game Background

Relic Splatter is an action adventure platformer game. Help treasure hunter Rebecca Ciler, a worker at Relic Splatter Inc, use her paintball guns to find all the gold relics in each chamber.

Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana 24 submitted it to The Web Monetization Challenge 2020, where it won second place out of 37 submissions.

How to Play Relic Splatter

Press the gray and black PLAY button on the loading screen to bring up the game’s welcome screen. Left click on a level number to start the game. On your first play through you must click through a 3-frame comic which explains that she uncovered the entrance to the temple of TONATIUH, the Aztec god of the sun.

Move Rebecca around using the WASD keys or the arrow keys on your keyboard.

Use your mouse to aim your paintball guns, and left click to shoot. Shoot downward to use the gun like a jetpack. Press the spacebar to switch between paintball guns. Walk into pools of ink to refill the associated paintball gun of the same color.

Make it back to the exit and press the Enter key to exit to the next stage.

Basic Gameplay Advice

This game has 6 levels which are unlocked sequentially.

A little circular radar will appear around the character when you are close to a relic to help you spot them quickly. Collect all of the gold relics in each chamber to unlock the exit door, then go back to the exit to leave. Each stage has 2 bonus secret red relics hidden in them.

Use the pink machine gun styled paintball gun to fire a rapid stream of light shots, and use the green bazooka paintball gun for a more powerful isolated shot. The pink gun can show wall weak points, and the green paintball gun can blow holes in the wall and knock pink rats off platform or defeat flying bats. Your ammo is shown in the upper right corner of the screen.

You start each stage with 3 heart containers. Avoid running into spikes and try not to get hit by rats or flying bats. If you get stuck you can press the R key to restart the current level. Your health is shown in the upper left corner of the screen. Some of the stone squares turn red and fall when you run under them.

Collect all of the gold relics on each stage (typically 3, though can be 4 or 5) to unlock the exit door and pass through the door to advance to the next stage. Two door markers on each stage are for red relics and all the other markers are for gold relics.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Enemies can repeatedly hit you, so it is best to take them out as soon as possible to avoid getting hit multiple times. If you get hit twice by a single enemy then any other mistake leads to a failed level.

It helps to attack enemies while you are standing in a pool of ink to refill your ammo, or to hit them while far away so you have time to react to their advances. If you have to coax an enemy into moving and they fly then you should try to immediately retreat to get some distance between you and them so aiming is easier and you do not have to worry about moving across platforms while shooting.

You do not need to get all the red relics to beat the game. If you miss some play through the remainder of the levels and then come back, as the level select screen shows which levels you grabbed red relics in.
