PunkRow Game Review
PunkRow Game Background
PunkRow is a turn-based rhythm game where players must move the band leader around to put the band back together, take out the cops, then go up on stage.
The game was developed by Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana24 as part of the Making a scene Jam.
How to Play Punkrow
Press the gray and black PLAY button on the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. Tap on level 1 with your mouse left click button to start the game.
Move your character around the screen using either the WASD keys or the arrow keys.
Your character will move in the direction instructed until he either runs into something or you issue another direction command.
Basic Gameplay Advice
When you run into a bandmate they become part of your chain and follow you from the back of the chain.
Avoid running into cops when you are not on fire, do not hit the spikes, and ensure bullets do not hit any of your bandmates. You can push traffic cones around to block the bullets.
Step on buttons to open gates of the same color.
After picking up all bandmates you are in “on fire” status. When en fuego you can knock off the police and then go onto the stage to play a tune. After you get on stage with the whole band the stage is beat and you move onto the next.
This game has 12 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Unlike a regular game of snake you can move your chain of bandmates in the opposite direction you came from instantly.
Sometimes when the timing of passing an area is hard you can stop by moving into a fixed object or wall so that you only have a square or two to move across and can better time your moves.
The order you pick up your bandmates in is important, as some bullet sequences or cop moves only leave a couple squares of clearance.
Educational Aspects
This is a simple turn-based rhythm movement game which can help children develop route planning skills and improve their timing.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is fun for all ages, though it is a quick play which experienced games can beat in 10 minutes or less.
