Plug Me Portals Game Review
Plug Me Portals Game Background
Plug Me Portals is a speedrunner platforming adventure game.
The goal of the game is to plug your character Plugman into the receptacle before the power runs out, so that he can recharge the green energy bar. This game is the sequel to Plug Me, adding a warping portals feature.
The game was developed by Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana24.
How to Play Plug Me Portals
Press the PLAY button in the center of the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. Select a level from the welcome screen by using the arrows to move around, then pressing the X key to enter the stage.
Move the character around the playing field by using the WASD keys or the arrow keys. Players can press the X keyto jump. Press twice to double jump.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Level Features
As soon as you make your first move the green energy bar begins to deplete. The energy bar acts as a platform which you can also walk on or jump off of.
Time your moves to avoid falling off platforms, getting crushed by stones, or running into spikes or other sharp objects.
As you progress through the game some stages have purple buttons you need to step on to open the associated gates.
When you fall or jump through the warp the force you have going into the warp determines how much force you will have coming out.
Each stage has a collectible green charge block on it which you can grab to complete the stage 100%, though you can defeat the stage without collecting them.
Stages
Make it safely to the receptacle before the power meter runs out to advance to the next stage. When the power line gets near the end it slows down and turns yellow, then red.
Wooden colored blocks which are resting on the power ball fall through it when the power depletes through that level.
The game has 12 stages which are unlocked sequentially. Your total death count is recorded and displayed in the upper right corner. The level select screen shows your best time on each stage and if you collected the green charge block. If your best time is exceptionally fast the stopwatch near that stage will appear in gold, with slightly slower times showing a silver or bronze stopwatch.
If you lose a stage many times in a row the game offers a tutorial assistant which makes the level easier by removing some of the obstacles like spikes.
Telepork Boss Battle
On the final stage there is a boss battle, where you have to hit Telepork 3 times without getting hit. Each time you hit him by jumping on his head the green energy bar refills. You have to hit his head before the energy bar is fully depleted for it to fill again.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Some stages require you to walk on the green power line, while other stages require you to fall off it almost immediately.
On stages with rotating blades or cycling spikes you should time your initial movement so that you can get past the hazards safely without having to wait during active play.
When stages have multiple purple buttons sometimes you have to push the further purple button first and then come back to the closer one.
Don’t worry about collecting all the charge blocks or beating the stages quickly on your first playthrough. You can come back and play again to complete the game to 100%.
When going back to replay levels use the arrow keys to move the cursor around the level select screen and then press the X key to choose a stage. The lower right corner shows the time required to get a gold rating. If you do not meet your time goal press the X key again to replay the level. Press the C key to back to the level select screen.
Educational Aspects
This is a rather challenging platformer game which requires precisely timed jumps and helps people think of creative ways to get through tightly timed obstacles.
Player Age Recommendations
This game should be fun for gamers in middle school and beyond. Younger players are likely to find the game quite difficult by the time they get to the fifth or sixth level. Players who enjoy this game will likely enjoy the original game, and the extended version of the game available on Steam.
