How to Play Tic-Tac-Toe

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select a game option on the bottom center to begin.

Select a space on the grid to leave your mark there.

Basic Gameplay Advice

At the beginning of the game choose whether you play against the computer or another human player. From there, you can either proceed to the main game or customize the game’s grid and win options before selecting Start. Choose whether you play as an X or an O, then choose your color before proceeding with the game.

In all cases, you must take turns leaving your marks on the grid. One player marks their space with an X and the other marks theirs with an O. Form a complete horizontal, vertical, or diagonal row of your marks to begin. If neither player can form a full row once the grid is completely filled, the game ends in a draw. You have 2 minutes to win as many games against your opponent as you can. The player who wins the most number of rounds when the timer on the top left corner expires is the winner.

In standard games, the grid consists of a 3 x 3 grid and is won when a player makes 3 in a row. Custom games can have grids be 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 and winning rows that don’t fully cover the length of the grid.

On the game over screen, you can choose to share both the game and the number of rounds you’ve won with your friends on either Facebook, Twitter, or WhatsApp. The game over screen does not show your win to lose ratio.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

This advice chiefly applies to standard games. If you have the first move, place your opening mark at any of the corners instead of the center if you’re playing first. If your opponent fails to seize the center, try to take it and form an L-shaped arrangement of your marks in the grid to give you two avenues of winning that your opponent can’t block. You’re almost guaranteed to win every time if your opponent never takes the center space.

If your opponent is playing aggressively, on the other hand, try to force a draw whenever you can by blocking their potential moves. More often than not, this instead leads you to a draw, but denying your opponent a win often helps you catch up or keep a lead.
