Papa's Hot Doggeria Game Review
Papa’s Hot Doggeria Game Background
Papa Louie’s next enterprise takes you out to the ball game. Papa’s Hot Doggeria is the seventh game in Flipline Studios’ Papa Louie restaurant sim series. As Taylor, Peggy, or a worker of your creation, try to watch the big game at Griller Stadium while serving up Papa’s signature sausages to the starving sports spectators.
How to Play Papa’s Hot Doggeria
Getting Started
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select Continue on the bottom right corner of the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. On the welcome screen, select Play at the center to begin.
Pick from one of 3 save slots to begin. You can start a new session by choosing an empty slot or select an occupied slot to resume a previous one. You can also clear a save slot by selecting the X button on its top right corner. You can backup your save slots to your device by selecting Save a Backup; you can play a previous backup by selecting Load a Backup on an empty slot. Your browser automatically saves your game progress after each game day you finish.
To get started, select a player character. You can pick either Taylor or Peggy or create a custom character of your own. After that, a cutscene plays explaining the lore of the game. You can get past this by selecting Skip Intro on the bottom right corner.
Character Customization
You enter the character creator after you select the Create a Custom Worker option on the character selection screen. Here, you can create your own character in the Papa Louie Arcade style to play as. Take all the time you need to create your character.
Choose from the two available gender presets and type in a username on the name space. You can choose from an assortment of 8 built-in customization options on the left for your character’s face, hair, and skin tone. Meanwhile, you can refine your character’s head and facial features using the 6 sliders on the right. When you’re finished, select Continue on the bottom center of the screen. You can make further adjustments later in the game by selecting the customize button on the pause screen.
You can also change the character’s outfit by buying clothes later in the game.
The Process
The game allows you to cook a modest assortment of sausages. They cook pretty much the same, with their main differences being cooking times.
The game has 4 stations, representing the steps in the order process:
- The order station, in green, where you take the customers’ orders
- The grill station, in orange, where you cook the hot dogs
- The build station, in blue, where you put relish on the hotdogs
- The pop station, in purple, where you add sides like drinks and popcorn to the order
To navigate between stations, select the button of its color.
To write down a customer’s order, first go to the order station and select Take Order above the customer once they approach the counter. Place the order ticket onto the line at the top row or leave it on the hook on the top right corner.
At the grill station, select a hot dog from the bottom row and place it on any of the grill rows. The timer on each row of the grill will indicate the doneness of the hot dog. Select the hot dog to flip it to ensure that it cooks as evenly as possible. Take it out of the heat when the timer hits green. Don’t let it burn. Once you’ve taken the hot dog out, place it on a bun on the bottom row, then select Next to bring it to the build station.
At the build station, select the right ingredients to finish off the hot dog. Drizzle ingredients like relish evenly selecting a cup then hovering it above the hot dog. Do the same with sauces like ketchup and mayonnaise. Drag and drop solid ingredients like tomatoes; make sure to space them evenly around the hot dog.
At the pop station, you can add optional popcorn and drink cups to the order. To dispense of both, select the drink or popcorn button, then select the cup size. The machine will automatically fill the container with the right amount of popcorn or liquid. Drag and drop the drink cup or popcorn bag to the order tray once the hot dog is there. Select the order ticket, then drag and drop it to serve the order.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Summary
The backstory is the same regardless of which character you choose. The player character’s excitement for the big game at Griller Stadium comes to naught as the tickets are sold out. Just when all hope to see the game is lost, they spot an ad for Papa’s Hot Doggeria, a concession stand that promises the best seats in the house for its workers. They take the job, hoping to catch glimpses of the game while on the job while Papa Louie himself watches the game from the bleachers. This goes smoothly, until the rush of hungry spectators overwhelm them.
Basics
You run a concession stand. Your goal is to serve customers exactly the refreshments they ask for in a timely manner. First off, you must cook the hot dogs to perfection and relish them according to customer preferences. Second, you must serve the right size drink and, whenever specified, popcorn orders. Unlike other Papa’s restaurant games, presentation is easy; the drinks and pop corn have neat spots on the customer tray. You only need to evenly distribute the relishes on the hot dog.
The game has different ingredients, which are unlocked as the game progresses. These include the following:
- 5 sausages
- 5 buns
- 14 toppings
- 6 sauces
- 8 brands of soft drink
- 8 flavors of popcorn
Every time you make a mistake, you have the option of tossing the hot dog or tray or serving it as is. Although you’re not likely to score high either way, we recommend starting over to get the highest possible number of points.
The Work Week
The game consists of a 7-day work week. A day consists of the time you spend serving customers; it ends once the last customer receives their order. The work week determines both the arrival of your pay and the closer who arrives at the end of the day.
Your performance is graded according to the following metrics:
- Pop: How well you served popcorn and drinks
- Grilling: How skillfully you cooked the hot dogs
- Building: How well you assembled the hot dog toppings
- Waiting: How long the customers had to wait to be served
This assessment appears at the end screen before your pay and total score appear. Pay attention to these, as they show you your areas for improvement.
Customers
The game has 76 characters, most of which are unlocked as you play. You can meet only a few customers in the first few days of the game. Each customer has an order preference, which they will order frequently. This can be a tall order to keep track of, so feel free to use the customer menu. Access this by selecting the customers button on the pause screen. You can also view the customers you unlocked by selecting View Parade on the startup screen. The more customers you unlock, the more spectacular your parade becomes.
Each customer has an order ticket. To serve a customer, you must match the finished tray with the correct order ticket. Matching the order with the wrong ticket is a surefire way to irk your customers.
Customer satisfaction with your service determines whether you level up. The happier the customer is with the order, the more points they’ll give you. You must earn a specific number of points to level up.
Customers also have a star gauge, which determines their satisfaction with your service. The star gauge consists of 5 stars. Earn all 5 stars and the customer gains a badge. Badges come in 3 ranks: bronze, silver, and gold. Customers with badges order faster. While customers will not lose any badges they gain, they will lose stars if they are dissatisfied with your service.
Closers
Closers are the customers that arrive last. They are more judgmental of your food and service quality than the others and are subsequently difficult to please. Each closer comes in only once a week, so it’s important to impress them. Despite their name, it’s often better to serve them before the other customers
Jojo the Food Critic is an especially discerning closer. Impressing this finicky diner grants you a blue ribbon, which grants you a temporary increase in all tips for three days.
Earnings and Improvements
You earn money in 4 ways:
- The tips you earn from satisfying customers; the better your service, the higher your tip
- Your weekly pay, which starts at $100 and increases as you level up
- As a one-time bonus from finishing any of the 80 achievement badges
- As a consolation prize from a mini game
The money you earn can be used to buy improvements to your shop. These improvements include upgrades and largely cosmetic decoration for your lobby. Upgrades help you with the tasks of preparing orders. Furnishings, posters, flooring, and walls, meanwhile, increase the effect the environment has on the customers’ patience and the score value of specific products.
Of these, the upgrades are the most crucial in the early game.
- The doorbell ($30) alerts you to incoming customers.
- Grill boosters ($120 each) let you briefly cook food faster.
- Alarms ($150 each) alert you when the sausages need to be cooked or removed from the grill.
- Boosters ($150 each) let you pour popcorn or drinks faster.
The furniture, flooring, posters, and walls can be added to the lobby by selecting the Decorate Lobby button on the startup screen. The decorative items you bought can be selected from your inventory. Drag and drop the selected item onto the lobby to place them in.
The lobby has a score determining its effect on customer patience. Keep the score high to help the customers be more forgiving of your actions.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Predicting Your Customers
Anything that buys you time can help you stay on top of orders. This includes predicting what the customers will order before they do so. One trick is to pay attention to the customers near the Hot Doggeria at the opening of each day. The first customer of the day is always on the left near the entrance, while the second is always some distance away.
Understanding the orders of these customers can help you make preparations early on. When you know the first customer’s order, you can grill their sausage while they’re still ordering.
Grilling Priorities
“First come, first serve” isn’t always the ideal policy in this game. The different types of sausages in this game have different cooking times. Thus, you must set your priorities appropriately. Arrange your order tickets to reflect the necessity of finishing quicker-cooking orders sooner to keep them from burning.
Investing in Interiors
While interiors shouldn’t be the first thing you spend on, you shouldn’t neglect it. A well-decorated shop not only looks better but also helps improves customer patience. This can help you in later levels where the lines get longer.
In this game, the effects of the interiors on customer patience is quantified (though the maximum number increases as the game moves forward). This can help you set a budget for your interior investment and choose items that have. Items now have a number that contribute to the interior score.
You can also save on interior decorating by using the items you won from the mini games.
Mini Games
You have the opportunity to play mini games at the end of the day assuming you have enough tickets to do so. Tickets are awarded to you after satisfying enough customers. You can earn a maximum of 3 stars on a normal day. You can play each mini game as many times as you want as long as you have enough tickets.
Most games award you with a random decoration or clothing item as a reward for winning. Your consolation prize is a minuscule tip.
Home Run Derby
This is a baseball-themed game. Select anywhere on the screen when the ball approaches to hit it and make a home run.
Cool Shot
This is a simple arcade-style shooting game. Select anywhere to shoot. Shoot at 10 enemies to win.
Strike Out
This is a baseball-themed game that’s the opposite of Home Run Derby. Next to the hitter is a box representing the bat, where a red ball moves around. Select when the ball is beneath the bat to get the ball past the hitter (a strike). Earn three strikes to win.
Hallway Hunt
Your task is to select the door the target customer is hiding behind. The customer will join a group. When the lights go out, they will move around with only their eyes visible. Follow the eyes of the target customer to find their door.
Mitch’s Mess
This is a simple hidden object game. To earn a prize, select all the listed objects hiding in Mitch’s cache. Be warned; every missed selection counts as a strike; three strikes and you’re out.
Customer Cravings
This game tests your knowledge of customer preferences. Each customer is flanked by a set of orders; select the one that represents what they would actually buy.
Burgerzilla
Use your mouse or fingers to move your character around. Collect burger ingredients in the bun until they reach the level marked by the dashed line. Win by topping the burger with a bun.
Educational Aspects
The game challenges a player’s ability to manage time and switch between various competing tasks. To succeed long-term, players need to move from one action to another smoothly while staying attentive to each customer’s demands.
Player Age Recommendations
The game is suited for school-aged players and above, with the general audience skewing older due to its complexity. We recommend this game for fans of restaurant sims and challenging time-management games.
