Papa's Freezeria Game Review

Papa’s Freezeria Game Background

Papa’s Freezeria is the fourth restaurant time management game in Flipline Studio’s Papa Louie Arcade series. You’re put in charge of Papa’s new venture, an ice cream shop in a tropical island. Prepare custom cool treats for customers with sweet tooth.

How to Play Papa’s Freezeria

Getting Started

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the screen with your fingers. Select the continue button on the bottom right corner of the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. On the welcome screen, select Play at the bottom center to begin.

Choose from one of the three available save slots. Picking an empty save slot starts a new session, while picking an occupied one resumes an existing session. Your web browser automatically saves your game progress. You can delete your game data by pressing the x button on the top right corner of the save slot. You can also save a backup of a save slot onto your device by selecting Save a Backup; select Load Backup on an empty save slot to load it.

If you’re playing for the first time, choose a player character from either Alberto or Penny. Type your chosen username in the namespace provided, then press Continue to begin. A cutscene plays that describes the game’s premise plays; you can select Skip Intro to get past the cutscene.

The Process

The game has 4 stations, representing the steps involved in making each order:

  • The order station, in green, is where you receive customers and take their orders.
  • The build station, in purple, is where you pour soft serve
  • The mixing station, in orange, is where you mix the soft serve and flavors to make the ice cream mix.
  • The topping station, in blue, is where you put the toppings in.

On the order station, select the Take Order button above the customer to get the customer’s order. You have two options after this. First, you can leave the order ticket on the ticket hook on the right side of the screen. Alternately, you can select the ticket, then drag and drop it to the line on the top right corner of the screen.

Once you get the order, select the purple button. At the build station, press the option available (serving size, mix-in, syrup), then select when the on-screen meter points at the green or yellow areas. If you make a mistake, select the trash button to throw away the order.

Select the orange button to open the mixing station. Select the order, then drag and drop it to any of the 4 available mixers. The timer on the mixers indicates the progress of each mix level. When you’re done, select the order, then drag and drop it to the green arrow conveyor on the bottom right corner or place it on top of the platform on the left center edge. If you make a mistake, drag and drop it to the red platform on the bottom left corner.

Select the blue button to open the topping station. Like in Papa’s Taco Mia, you drizzle the toppings onto the ice cream mix. Select the topping, cream, or syrup, then move your mouse cursor or fingertips to drop the toppings onto the order. Select the larger toppings (e.g. cookies and cherries), then drag and drop them to the top of the order. Once you’re finished, select accept to finish the order. Select the correct order slip, then drag and drop it on the stand.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Summary

Papa Louie hires the player character (either Alberto or Penny) to work in Sleepy Calypso island, with only a tiny customer base to serve. It seems like the perfect stress-free workplace, almost like a vacation, right? Think again! A cruise ship docks nearby, carrying with it a literal boatload of vacationers looking for cool treats.

Basics

To satisfy the customers, you must meet their orders as close to how they ordered it as possible. Meeting their exact orders as quickly as possible will net you the highest possible tips and earn you a good rating from the customers. Ideally, you should also ensure that the toppings are as evenly distributed on the order as possible. In this game, speed and accuracy matter. Don’t worry about the ingredients; they’re constantly replenished.

If you make a mistake, you have the option to either serve it as is or dispose of it. We recommend disposing of the mistakes as egregious errors are likely to upset the customers. Do note that you do get a penalty if an order takes too long, though this is often much higher than an incorrect order.

The game has a wide variety of ingredients that are unlocked as you progress. Keep playing to create increasingly complex dessert orders.

  • 8 mixable ingredients
  • 6 mixing syrups
  • 2 whipped toppings
  • 5 sprinkled toppings (“shakers”)
  • 4 sauces
  • 5 placeable toppings

Work Week

The game is divided into a work week, consisting of 7 days. Each day comprises the entire time you spend meeting customers orders and ends when you serve the last customer. The days of the work week determine both the arrival of your salary and which closer customer arrives.

At the end of each day, you receive a performance review based on the following metrics:

  • Topping
  • Mixing
  • Building
  • Waiting

These are shown on the end screen prior to your customer points and total tips for the day. Use these to analyze your potential areas for improvement.

Customers and Customer Points

The game has 54 customers, most of which are unlocked as you play the game. You begin with a few customers unlocked at the start of the game. Each customer has a unique preference, which will comprise their most common order. These are accessible from the customer menu on the pause screen. To view the customer menu, pause the game, and select the customers button.

Every customer that comes to your shop gets an order ticket. Each finished mix you make must be paired with the correct order ticket. Getting the order tickets mixed up is a surefire way to irk your customers.

Your customers’ perception of your service determines the customer points you receive for the day. The more customer points you receive, the close you are to leveling up.

Customers also have star gauges, which represent how satisfied they are with your service. The happier your customers are, the higher their rating grows. Reaching a five-star rating wins you a customer award, which comes in 3 tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. When a customers earns a badge, they order faster. After earning one tier, the star gauge resets. Disappointing a customer empties the star gauge; while this will not remove any badge you already earned, it does mean that you have to earn back those stars the hard way.

Closers

Closers are the last customers in any given day. They are far more judgmental than other customers and will respond far more negatively to incorrect orders or poor service. The closer is different across a cycle of 8 days, so impressing them is an important matter. We recommend prioritizing them over the other customers to make the most of their visits.

On the 8th day, a special closer, Jojo the Food Critic, arrives. He is the hardest of the closers to impress and also the most rewarding. Impress him, and he will give your shop a blue ribbon. Blue ribbons are displayed on your shop window for 3 days. While it’s up, customers will grant you larger tips.

Upgrades and Furnishings

You earn tips every day from customers you satisfy in some way; the happier the customer, the higher your tip. Dissatisfied customers, meanwhile, won’t give you any money at all. On top of that, you also earn a weekly salary that starts at $100 and increases as you level up. This money can be used to buy improvements for your shop.

The items you can buy for your shop come in two forms: upgrades and furniture. Furniture appears in the lobby and has the effect of either improving product value or bolstering customer patience. These come in themes, which can allow you to create a neat, unified appearance for your shop.

Upgrades, meanwhile, improve your productivity by bolstering production times. These include the following improvements:

  • Door bell ($30): Lets you hear when a new customer enters
  • Blender boosters ($80 apiece): Hold a button down to speed up the blender for a short time
  • Alarms ($90 apiece): Notifies you when the mixes are blended to a specific level
  • Auto ice cream ($250): Dispenses ice cream to the ideal level
  • Hats (between $60 and $1,000): Improves waiting score and makes you look cool

You can buy items at the end of each level after receiving your tips or weekly pay.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Predicting Customers and Orders

Customers have a specific favorite item that they order rather frequently. Predicting the orders of the first few customer can help give you a head start in each day. While you can eventually commit some of these favorites to memory, you can cross reference them on the customer menu.

The opening cutscene of each day shows the first characters to arrive. The very first customer appears on the left and the second peeks out from the shed on the right. A third customer’s order can be discerned from the surfboards on the far right of the screen.

Priority Orders

Organize your order tickets well. We recommend sorting them according to to how long it takes to blend them. Prioritize earlier customers over later ones. Try to balance the need to finish orders with the need to take new ones.

Decorate

Your cash earnings are not cosmetic, and neither are the decorations in your shop. We recommend using them to improve the shop as soon as you have enough.

The patience of your customers is one of the most precious resources you have. Keeping your lobby nice and well-decorated is more than just an aesthetic choice. It also helps bolster your customers’ patience, buying you more time to prepare their orders without frustrating them.

On top of that, some decorations bolster the score value of specific products, allowing you to earn more from them.

Educational Aspects

The game tests a player’s time management, organization, and task-switching skills. To master the game, players must stay attuned to the wants of various customers and fulfill them in a speedy manner.

Player Age Recommendations

This game is suited for older school-aged players and above. We recommend this game for fans of restaurant sims and challenging time-management games.
