Papa's Cheeseria Game Review
Papa’s Cheeseria Game Background
Things take a turn for the cheesy in Flipline Studio’s eleventh Papa Louie restaurant sim. In Papa’s Cheeseria, you have the option to play as either member of the rocker power couple Rudy or Scarlet or create your own rock n’ rolla turned sandwich maker. Serve Papa’s signature grilled cheeses to his discerning customers as quickly as you can.
How to Play Papa’s Cheeseria
Getting Started
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select Continue on the bottom right corner of the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. Select Play near the bottom center of the welcome screen to begin.
Select from one of the 3 save slots to get started. Choose an empty save slot to start a new session or an occupied slot to load an existing one. To clear a save slot, select the X button on the top right corner. You can also save a copy of your save slot to your device by selecting Save a Backup; reload your old save file by selecting Load Backup on an empty save slot. Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.
At the character selection screen, choose between Rudy, Scarlett, or a custom worker. From there, a cutscene will play explaining the game’s premise. You can get past the cutscene and proceed with the game by selecting Skip Intro on the bottom right corner. If you’ve played a previous Papa Louie restaurant game, you can also avoid most of the tutorial by selecting Skip Tutorial on the bottom right corner of the screen.
Character Creation
Select Create a Custom Worker on the Character Creation Screen to load the character creator. Here, you can design your own Papa Louie-style character to serve as your worker of choice in the game.
Begin by choosing a gender aesthetic and typing a name on the namespace provided. Afterward, you can choose from a variety of hair styles, facial hairs, skin and hair colors, facial features, and accessories to build your character. Refine your character’s head and body further using the sliders. Once you’re finished, select Continue on the bottom center of the screen. You can make further edits to your character by selecting Customize on the pause screen.
The Process
The game has 4 color-coded stations representing the process of building a sandwich order:
- The order station, in green, is where you take customers’ orders.
- The build station, in blue, is where you assemble the sandwich.
- The grill station, in orange, is where you grill each sandwich.
- The fry station, in purple, is where you prepare the side of fries.
Move to a station by selecting the button of its color on the bottom center of the screen
At the order station, wait until the customer (or, much later in the game, your coworker) arrives at the counter. Select Take Order to create the customer’s order ticket. You can then leave the order ticket at the order hook at the top right corner or place it on the line on the top row.
The build station is divided into 3 parts.
- First, you must select a type of bread. Once you’ve chosen the bread, you’ll automatically get two slices.
- Second, choose a cheese. Select the cheese, then drag and drop it to the bread. Both slices must have cheese slices on them.
- Third, you must assemble a set of meats, vegetables, and sauces onto the cheese sandwiches. Select the ingredient, then drag and drop them to the slice of bread on the left. Try to keep all of these ingredients evenly done.
- Once all that’s done, select the slice of bread on the right and drag and drop it to the rest of the sandwich to finish it off.
At the grill station, select the finished sandwich, then drag and drop it to the grill to cook it. A timer dial will indicate its progress, and the colors on either half of the sandwich will indicate its doneness. Try to get the color to match the one on the order ticket. You must flip the sandwich once through the cooking process to ensure even cooking on both sides. When the sandwich is done, drag and drop it to the slicer at the bottom right corner to cut it in half. Make sure that the sandwich is cut as evenly as possible.
At the fry station, dip the chosen style of French fries into the fryer to cook them. A meter to the left of the fryer will indicate the cooking progress. You can take out the fries and leave them to drip if the sandwich they’re for isn’t done yet. Drizzle in the extras that go with the fries (sauces, bacon, shredded cheese, etc.) to complete the order. Once the sandwich is done, select the order ticket, then drag and drop it to the stand to serve.
You can dispose of the sandwich and start over at any point in the process. We recommend tossing out poorly built sandwiches rather than serving them as while both have a score penalty, serving bad sandwiches comes with a significantly lower score.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Summary
The game’s cutscene premise applies to all three player characters, though details differ. For instance, the band’s leader is Scarlett, while both Rudy and the custom character are featured performers. In any case, all three lose have their instruments stolen from them by a mysterious thief, and they are left unable to afford replacement instruments. Fortunately, Papa Louie’s new sandwich shop has an opening, which the player character accepts.
Basics
Your main goal is to serve customers the sandwiches they ask for in a timely manner. To receive a high score, a sandwich must have its contents centered and both its sides cooked to the right doneness. The sandwich must also be cut evenly and be paired with the correct order of fries.
You’ll need to hire a second employee to serve seated customers by Day 4. Your new coworker will arrive with the order ticket from a customer in the seated dining area.
The game has a broad array of ingredients, many of which are unlocked over the course of the game. In total, you have the following year-round ingredients:
- 12 breads
- 11 cheeses
- 19 toppings
- 10 sauces (4 of which are also available for fries)
- 5 types of fries
- 10 other fry toppings and sauces.
You can also unlock 4 different ingredients per holiday.
Specials
Most sandwich orders you receive are custom orders that are based on individual customer preferences. Over time, you’ll also receive specials from a few customers, which you can offer on a per-day basis. Each special has its own recipe and bonuses. You can view the special’s recipe by selecting the S button on the top left corner of the game screen.
You receive specials by impressing customers (i.e. earning an 80% rating or higher) with golden envelopes. Golden envelope customers are as hard to impress as closers, so put your best foot forward. The game has 40 special recipes to learn.
The bonuses for serving a special include higher tips, extra mini game tickets, more customer points, or an extra star toward the customer badge. Serving a special to 5 customers will also grant you an article of clothing as a reward.
Work Week
The game is divided into days, which represent the time you serve customers. Days are grouped into weeks, which consist of 7 days each. The days in a work week determine the arrival of closers and the time until you receive your weekly pay.
You get a service quality review at the end of each work day. This is measured based on the following metrics:
- Making the fries
- Cooking the sandwiches
- Assembling the sandwiches
- Customer wait times
Use these metrics as a guide to improve your performance for the following work day.
Customers
The game has 96 customers. Only a few of them are available at the start of the game; most of them are unlocked as you play. Each customer has a unique set of sandwich preferences and favorite holidays. During a holiday, they may also have a separate preferred order distinct from the one they have during the rest of the year. Check out the customers’ profiles on the customer menu on the pause screen to view their preferred sandwich orders.
You can also see the customers you’ve unlocked by selecting View Parade on the startup screen.
Customers have a star gauge, which measures their satisfaction with your service. You earn a star each time the customer is satisfied past 80%. Once you earn 5 stars, you receive a customer badge marking them as a star customer. Customer badges have 3 tiers: bronze, silver, and gold. While you cannot lose any of the badges you’ve already earned, you will lose your progress toward a badge if you displease a customer even once.
You receive customer points based on the customers’ satisfaction with your service. These points are crucial to leveling up. Earn enough points over the course of a day to move up a level. You can keep track of your daily level progress through the end screen and the startup screen.
Closers and Golden Envelope Holders
Closers and golden envelope holders are both finicky customers who are harder to please than regular customers. The main difference between them is when they appear. A closer is the customer that arrives last in each day, though because of their nature they don’t need to be served last. They come in once a week, which makes them harder to impress. A golden envelope holder holds a recipe for a new daily special. They appear more sporadically, and once they’ve given the recipe to you, they become regular customers.
The hardest customer to please is Jojo, the food critic. He comes in at the end of the week. Impressing him grants you the coveted blue ribbon, which increases the value of your tips for 3 days.
Holidays
The game year is divided into 4 seasons, which are, in turn, divided into 3 months. Each month has a corresponding holiday, with its own unique aesthetic and ingredients:
- New Year (January)
- Valentine’s Day (February)
- St. Paddy’s Day (March)
- Easter (April)
- Cinco de Mayo (May)
- Summer Luau (June)
- Starlight Barbecue (July)
- Portallini Feast (August)
- Maple Mornings (September)
- Halloween (October)
- Thanksgiving (November)
- Christmas (December)
The game’s calendar starts in may.
Customers have a favorite holiday and a preferred order unique to the holiday. Some customers and all closers also have unique holiday-themed outfits.
Earnings and Improvements
You earn money in the following ways:
- Tips. The happier the customer is with your service, the higher the tips you recieve.
- Your weekly pay. You begin with a starting pay of $100, which increases as you level up.
- Achievement badges. Each of the 140 badges you can earn throughout the game come with a one-time cash reward.
- Consolation prizes. If you didn’t lose that bad in a mini game, you get a small reward.
The money you made can be used to make improvements to your restaurant. These can be divided into clothes, furnishings, and upgrades. Clothing is usually purely cosmetic; themed clothing has a positive effect on customers during a holiday. Furnishings serve to help the customers stay patient throughout their stay. Upgrades, meanwhile, improve your work process.
We recommend purchasing the upgrades first. Their assistance becomes invaluable as you get busier.
- The doorbell ($4.5) alerts you to the arrival of customers.
- Cook boosters ($120 each) let you speed up the cooking process of the sandwiches.
- Fry boosters ($120 each) let you speed up the cooking process of the fries.
- Alarms ($80 each) let you know when the sandwiches are ready.
- The special sign ($250) entices customers to buy the current day’s special.
Interior Design
Dressing up your sandwich shop’s interiors becomes more important as the game progresses. Not only does a little decor make the place look nice, it also keeps the customers patient as they wait in line. To get started, select Decorate Lobby at the startup screen. Select the items you bought or won from your inventory, then drag and drop them either on the wall or floor to place. To put them back, select them, then drag and drop them back to the inventory.
Your lobby has a score that determines how well it improves customer patience. Adding items to it inventory improves the score and increases the maximum score. Most of the items come as part of a letter-coded theme. You can identify which theme an item belongs to based on the letter on the top right corner of its icon on your inventory. To get the maximum rating, have at least 3 items from a theme at any given time.
The lobby also has a freshness rating, which decays over time. This represents the customers getting tired of the same look day in and day out. Keep your lobby fresh by switching out items often.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
General Tips
Stay on top of things by checking on the items you’re cooking (i.e. in the grill and fry stations) regularly as you cook them. This is especially important if you don’t yet have the money for immediate upgrades. Use the downtime available while the items cook to do specific tasks, but be sure to do them little by little. Doing too many tasks at once and you may end up letting things overcook.
Taking and fulfilling orders is especially tricky as you can’t really interrupt their animations to check on the food. As much as possible, try to accomplish these actions while the food had just started cooking. If the food in the grill or fryer is about to finish cooking, we recommend just waiting for it to finish and taking care of it before moving on to another task.
Organize Your Tickets
Keep your tickets organized according to urgency. Move the newest tickets away from the ticket hook and into the leftmost part of the line. Meanwhile, keep the ones closest to completion closer to the hook to make it easy to serve.
Mini Games
Each day of the week has its own closing mini game. You can play the mini game as many times as you want, as long as you have enough tickets to do so. Winning a mini game will grant you a special prize, which is either an article of clothing or an item to decorate your store with.
To play a mini game, you must have a ticket. You earn tickets by impressing customers. On a normal day, you can earn up to 3 tickets before the day ends.
