Papa's Burgeria Game Review

Papa’s Burgeria Game Background

Papa’s Burgeria is the second game in the Papa Louie restaurant sim series by Flipline Studios. Taking place in a burger joint, this game puts you in the shoes of Marty, Rita, or Papa Louie himself as they manage a popular custom burger joint. Serve a variety of hungry customers with their own personal favorites as quickly and efficiently as possible. They didn’t call this “fast food” for nothing.

How to Play Papa’s Burgeria

Getting Started

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select the continue button on the bottom right corner of the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. On the welcome screen, select Play at the center to begin.

Select a save slot to start. The game has 3 save slots. Select an empty save slot to begin a new playthrough or an occupied one to resume a previous one. You can delete your game data by selecting Erase Save Data on the bottom of the save slot. Your web browser automatically saves your game progress.

Once you’ve picked a save slot, enter a username in the namespace provided, then select Continue. Choose from one of 3 characters to play as: Marty, Rita, or Papa Louie. A cutscene explaining the game’s backstory plays whenever you choose either Rita or Marty, which is absent when Papa Louie is chosen. The first day acts also acts as a tutorial.

The Process

The game has 3 stations, representing each step of the burger-making process:

  • Order station, in green, where you take a customer’s orders
  • Grill station, in red, where you cook the burger patties
  • Build station, in blue, where you assemble the burger itself

Select the word balloons above the customers to take their orders, then drag and drop the order slip on the line on the top row of the screen. Once you receive the order, select the red button to move to the grill, then drag and drop the order slip to the pin on the upper right corner.

Fry a burger patty by selecting a patty on the bottom left corner, then dropping it on the grill. When playing on a desktop, move your mouse cursor over the patty to check its doneness. To flip the patty, select it. Flip the patty as many times as needed to ensure even cooking. When the patty is cooked at the right level, remove it and place it on the plate on the bottom right corner, then select the blue button to assemble the burger. You can toss overcooked patties by dragging and dropping them into the trash bin to the top left of the grill.

On the build station, select, drag and drop each component of the burger to build it up. The buns and vegetables are found on the left side while the condiments are found on the right side. If you served an ingredient incorrectly, drag and drop it to the trash bin on the bottom center left of the When you’re finished, select the order slip, then drag and drop it to the little stand next to the burger to serve it. You can serve the burgers in any order as long as they are matched with the correct order slip.

You can pause the game at any time by hitting the pause button on the bottom right corner of the game screen.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Summary

The cutscene explains the plot of the game from Marty’s and Rita’s perspectives: Depending on who you choose, either character wins the golden ticket that wins them a chance to work on Papa Louie’s new venture, the Burgeria. They meet up with Papa Louie for their first day of work.

Basics

Like in other restaurant games in the Papa Louie Arcade collection, the main resource you manage is time. Ingredients are constantly replenished and you’ll never run out of stock. Focus all your energy on cooking each item quickly and efficiently before serving it to the customer.

Customers have two requirements: toppings and doneness. Doneness is determined at the grill, and refers to how well cooked a burger patty is. The patty must be cooked to either of the three doneness levels (rare, medium, or well-done), according to customer demand, preferably evenly. Moreover, the patty must remain warm throughout the process of assembly; letting it cool will affect the customer rating when the patty is served.

The toppings and condiments, meanwhile, are a matter of order. You begin with a stack of burger ingredients on one side (bottom bun, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, cheese, and top bun) and an array of condiments on another (mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, mustard, and ketchup). All these ingredients are available at the beginning and must be layered exactly as the customer ordered.

Work Days

The game is divided into work days, which consist of the entire span of time you serve burgers to the customers that enter the shop. Customers fall in line at the counter, where you can take their orders. Once that’s done, they then fall in line until they receive their orders.

Your service quality is measured in 3 metrics: building, grilling, and waiting. You can view your ratings for each of these metrics at the end of each level alongside the tips you earn. Keep track of these to learn your areas for improvement.

Customers and Customer Points

The game has 44 different customers. You start each playthrough with 5 of them, and you unlock a new customer with every day you finish. While you can figure out their preferences after you’ve met them a couple of times, you can also keep track of it using their profiles on the customer file. Access the customer file by selecting the menu button on the bottom left corner of the screen, then selecting the customers tab.

Each customer has a corresponding order slip. Before serving the burger, you must drag and drop the order slip that matches the customer’s order. Should you attach an order slip to the wrong burger, you get an unhappy customer.

How well you serve the customers determines the customer points you receive at the end of the day. Customer points replace the tips from Papa’s Pizzeria as the means of measuring your game progress. The more customer points you earn per day, the closer you get to leveling up.

Customers have star ratings, which reflect their satisfaction with your service. The better you serve the customers, the higher the star ratings get. The highest rating you can receive from a customer is 5 stars. After that, they become a star customer and are labeled as such on the customer file. To complete the game, you must receive 5 stars from all your customers.

Tips and Upgrades

Each time a customer receives an order they’re even remotely satisfied with, they give you a tip. How generous a tip is depends on a customer’s satisfaction. The happier the customers are with the speed and quality of their service, the better their tips will be.

Unlike in Papa’s Pizzeria, the tips themselves don’t contribute to leveling up. Instead, the tips are used as in-game cash, which you can use to buy an assortment of functional and cosmetic upgrades. These upgrades help improve the store’s service quality or customer experience and become especially important in later levels when dealing with longer lines of customers.

The majority of items available for sale improves waiting scores by giving customers something to look at or do while they wait for their burgers to finish cooking. A few products, meanwhile, are directly related to cooking burgers:

  • The heat lamp ($200) lets you keep the burgers warm.
  • The doorbell ($30) alerts you to the arrival of new customers.
  • Various timers ($200 each) alert you to a patty’s target doneness level.
  • We recommend purchasing these upgrades as soon as you can afford it, and save the cosmetic upgrades for later.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Staggered Service

Particularly in later levels, you’ll want to organize your order slips according to what you can conveniently do, rather than by the order you receive them. We recommend sorting the slips on the line according to the doneness the customer wants, allowing you to prioritize burgers that cook faster over those that take longer.

Cook in Bulk

Cooking several burger patties at once is sound advice as it saves you a lot of time paying attention to each individual patty. This is a strategy that works especially well in the early levels when the customers all want medium burgers.

The main challenge, though, is to keep them warm. A patty that’s cooled enough will cause customer dissatisfaction. If you’ve bulk-cooked patties before you bought the heat lamp, be prepared to put them back in the grill for a few seconds before putting them in a burger.

All About the Layers

The sandwich must be served as close to the customers’ desired order as possible. Try to arrange each ingredient exactly as the customer wants, making sure to include only the patties that are cooked the way they want, in the proper order. They’re finicky that way. The more you deviate from their desired arrangement, the lower your score will be.

If you make a mistake, try again by taking off the ingredients that are out of order and tossing them aside. Just be sure to spot your corrections before you put on the top bun. Once the top bun is on, there’s no turning back. Be careful when putting sauces. You can’t remove condiments or anything beneath them.

People do, in fact, care if the burger looks good. You lose a few points if the burger isn’t entirely centered. Keep up appearances and try to keep everything as neat as you can make it.

Educational Aspects

This game challenges a player’s time management skills and task-switching abilities. Players must remain attentive to the needs of the customers and stay focused to serve each dish in a timely manner.

Player Age Recommendations

This game is suited for players school-aged and above, though it may be better appreciated by older players due to its complexity. We recommend this game for fans of restaurant sims and other time management games.
