No Duck's Sky Game Review
No Duck’s Sky Game Background
No Duck’s Sky is a platformer game where you play as a flightless duck in outer space, using a gun to provide jumping force to move between platforms.
The goal of the game is to collect energy orbs to help power the spaceship and get back to Earth.
The game was developed by Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana24.
How to Play No Duck’s Sky
Press the gray and black play button on the loading screen to bring up the welcome screen. On the welcome screen press NEW GAME to start a new game, or CONTINUE to continue a previous game.
On your first play through there is a story, which you can skip by pressing the N key, or click through a frame at a time using your mouse.
Use your mouse to aim your gun and left click to shoot. When you shoot downward you jump up. Your gun can also activate switches and destroy concrete blocks. Initially you start off with 5 shots. Each time bring an energy orb back to your brother Elliot you get another ammo slot. Each time you land on solid ground, reach another planet, or get back to your spaceship your ammo is refilled.
In space shoot in any direction to move in the opposite direction until you reach a planet or your spaceship.
While playing on the surface of the planets move left by pressing either the A key or the left arrow key. Move right by pressing the D key or the right arrow key.
Basic Gameplay Advice
This game has 10 levels, with each represented by a planet you can move to.
The goal of the game is for Duncan the duck to retrieve an energy orb from each of the 10 planets and bring them back to the start of the level and exit the planet. Carry the orbs to Elliot on the ship, and gather enough energy to move the ship.
On each planet you use your gun for propulsion, to shoot enemies, to destroy concrete blocks, to flip switches, and to move blocks. Each time you bring an orb back your ammo increases. You have unlimited ammo while you are stationary on the ground, but you have a limited amount of ammo to use on each jump before you need to land somewhere to refill the ammo.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Some stages are easier than others. If you get stuck on a stage consider playing other worlds and beating them first so you have more shooting power for the harder stages you previously got stuck on.
Break big moves down into smaller ones, stopping at safe spots to restore your ammo and so you can adjust your aim for making it to the next safe spot.
If you are shooting at flying enemies while you are standing on the ground be sure to move in the direction you are shooting so you don’t fall off platform into the spikes from the shot recoil.
The gravity level of each planet is shown when you appear on the surface of the planet. Where the gravity level is stronger you need to shoot with more force to stay afloat.
Educational Aspects
While being a platformer game this game also has physics elements to it, in terms of controlling movement paths through shooting the gun while flying through space. Children can learn about forces and reactions playing this game.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is fun for all ages. Grade school kids will likely find 3 or 4 of the levels quite challenging, though experienced gamers should have no problem beating all 10 stages.
