Neon War Game Review
Neon War Game Background
Neon War is 2D shooting game themed after neon lights. Evade the various oncoming neon-colored objects and shoot at them to earn points. Keep playing for as long as you can.
How to Play Neon War
To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. Select anywhere on the bottom row of the welcome screen to begin. Select and swipe to move the shooter from left to right. On the welcome screen, select on any of the upgrades to buy it.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Your goal is to have the shooter survive for as long as possible. Move the shooter from left to right to dodge the oncoming objects. The shooter automatically fires; move the shooter around and line them up with the objects to shoot them down. Each object has a number indicating how many times it needs to be shot before it is destroyed.
When destroyed, objects drop hexagonal blue coins. Pick as many of these up as you can; the number of coins you’ve collected appear on the top center of the welcome screen. Your coins can be used to upgrade your shooter before you start the next session. There are 4 kinds of upgrades available on the welcome screen:
- Increase your fire rate.
- Increase your damage per shot.
- Increase your hit points.
- Unlock the PET, a second shooter that appears to the right of your main shooter. When unlocked, upgrades increase the fire rate of the PET. At Level 12, you unlock a second PET that appears to the left of the shooter.
You earn points based on the size of your enemies. Enemy objects sometimes spawn more objects when destroyed, which adds to the points they’re worth when all of them are shot down. The point value of each object is as follows:
- Orange objects are worth 2 points.
- Green objects are worth 4 points.
- Yellow objects are worth 10 points.
- Pink objects are worth 8 points each, plus 4 points from the two orange objects they spawn.
- Red objects are worth 20 points each, plus 8 points from the two green objects they spawn.
Your web browser automatically saves your best score, which appears on the bottom left corner of the welcome screen.
As you progress through the game, the objects get larger and become more difficult to destroy.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Your best defense is a good offense in this game, so the first thing you should do is bolster your firepower. The first of the upgrades you should unlock is the PET. Unlike the main shooter, it does not take damage and increases the area you can shoot at dramatically. By Level 12, you have two PETs, essentially giving you 3 shooters.
In the first few rounds, you have no coins and no major offensive capabilities. Bolster your survival by hiding in the left and right corners when things get a bit crowded.
When things do get crowded, try to pick off the weakest enemies first while evading the big ones. Bigger enemies (pink and red ones) tend to split into smaller ones once taken out, which can complicate crowding. Bear this in mind when shooting them down and be prepared to evade.
Educational Aspects
This game hones a player’s reaction time and hand-eye coordination. It also encourages players to learn the value of investing in improvements, as players will often only progress significantly with ease if they purchase upgrades.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is suited for older school aged children and adults. We recommend this game for players who like simple 2D shooting games.
