Mergis Game Background

Mergis is a simple number-based merging game. Stack blocks called mergis on each of the vertical lanes onscreen and merge identical ones together to increase their value. Keep merging them for as long as you can and earn as many points as possible. Earn more points by merging several mergis blocks in sequence.

How to Play Mergis

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the loading screen, select anywhere to bring up the welcome screen. On the welcome screen, select the play button at the center to get started.

To drop a mergis, select a lane.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

You begin with 4 lanes. Drop colored blocks called mergis into these lanes one at a time. Dropping one mergis on top of another of the same color will cause them to merge together and form a mergis block of a different color and level. The color of each mergis block are determined at random. The current and next mergis block you will be dropping appear above the screen near the top center.

Each mergis block has a number level, which is indicated on its left and right sides. Merging them together increases their level, as would merging them with a colorful mergis block, a multicolored wild-card style block you can merge with blocks of any value.

Colorful mergis blocks are sometimes dealt randomly throughout the game. You can also gain colorful mergis blocks by merging a pair of mergis blocks valued at 10 together. Upon merging the blocks, the colorful mergis clears the row and the current block you are about to drop transforms into a colorful mergis block. If you merge a pair of blocks valued 10 and there are lower-value blocks beneath them, the colorful mergis block is formed within the lane and automatically merges with the one immediately below it.

Keep dropping mergis blocks onto the lanes until one of the lanes is full. If you form a lane that’s 10 blocks tall, you can skirt a game over if the blocks below it immediately merge.

Special Moves

The game provides you with a limited, non-renewable supply of special moves, which you can use to get you out of a tight spot. The first of these allows you to remove a piece from the top of any of the lanes. The second lets you switch out the current and next blocks with each other. Both can be useful in certain situations. However, because you only get a limited number of each in every game, you must use them with care.

Both special moves appear on the bottom center of the screen. The clear special move appears on the bottom center left and the switch special move appears on the bottom center right. You begin each new session with 3 clear blocks and 5 switch blocks.

Scoring

You score by merging blocks. Each pair of blocks merged is worth the numerical value of the blocks merging. For instance, a pair of mergis blocks valued at one are worth 1 point when merged, a pair of blocks valued at 2 are worth 2 blocks, and so on.

You also receive a multiplier bonus based on how many mergers take place in a chain. This is calculated at the starting value of an individual pair of blocks times the number of subsequent number of merges. If, for instance, you merge a 2 and it sets of a chain that ends in 5, you get a multiplier bonus of 3 (2 and 2, 3 and 3, 4 and 4) and a final score of 12.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

The first thing you must do is avoid stacking higher value mergis blocks above smaller ones. while you can merge smaller ones into larger ones, the opposite is not usually true, with the only exception involving the colorful mergis and the 10 stone. Putting the blocks out of order will reduce the capacity of the lane. Consequently, it is important that you organize the blocks in ascending order, with the largest-value ones at the bottom.

Keep as many of the rows in ascending order (“clean”) as possible. If you must create a row out of order (“dirty”), restrict it to just one or two rows and focus your energy on keeping the others neat.

Use the special moves with care. For instance, there are times when the ideal piece to use is the next one. Ideally, you should utilize the special moves if you know they can trigger a high-value chain of merges. Likewise, if you want to render a dirty lane usable again, use the clear function to make it available.
