How to Play Megacity Hop

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. To begin, select the play button on the center of the welcome screen.

On a desktop, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to move. Press the left and right arrow keys to move horizontally. Press the up arrow key to move forward.

On a touchscreen device, tap on the screen with your fingers to move. Tap and swipe up to move forward. Tap and swipe to the left and right to move to the sides. You can also use a mouse to move in a similar manner on a desktop.

You cannot move backwards in this game.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Your goal is to cross as many busy roads and streams as possible. Time your crossing to avoid getting run over by vehicles along the way. If anything runs you over, it’s a very painful game over. To cross a stream, wait until a floating box passes by. Hop off the floating box at an empty space before it floats away offscreen. Being carried offscreen on a box will also end the game.

You can try again as many times as you want.

Unlike other cross-the-road style games, the game screen is static and will not scroll away into a game over if you stay in one place for too long.

You earn 1 point for ever road, city block, or stream you cross. You can compare your current and best scores on the top left corner of the game screen. Your web browser automatically saves your best score.

You can also collect coins along the way. Pick up enough coins to unlock new player characters. You can buy player characters by pressing the shop button on the lower left of the game over screen. There are 4 more unlockable characters.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Because the game is not timed, you can take your sweet time in crossing each street lane. Consider moving sideways to get a clear path to unobstructed city blocks.
