Maria Adventure Game Background

Maria Adventure is a whimsical horizontal platformer starring the namesake toddler. Help her collect stars and baby items through each level and evade or defeat enemies along the way. The game was developed by Joffre Macedo Neto.

How to Play Maria Adventure

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. At the center of the welcome screen, select New Game to start a new session and select Continue to load a previous session. You can also get a quick tutorial by selecting Controls to open the tutorial page.

On a desktop, use your keyboard to move. Press the A and D keys to move from left to right and the W key to jump. On a touchscreen device, tap on the left and right buttons on the bottom left corner to move horizontally and tap on the up button on the bottom right corner to jump.

Basic Gameplay Advice

The game plays like a standard old-school horizontal platformer. As Maria, move across the level and pick up items—including 3 stars—to earn points. Avoid or take out enemies, which include rats, crabs, and pics. To finish each level, reach the other side alive.

Levels

The 6 levels are unlocked sequentially. At the start of the game, only the first level is playable. You can replay each of the levels you’ve already beaten, which is important if you want to earn a higher score and star rating. Your web browser automatically saves your level progress, star ratings, and best scores.

Getting Around

Jump around to overcome chasms and move from one platform to the next. Often, you must jump off platforms to reach specific items. Commonly, these work as stairsteps, allowing you to climb up higher areas with ease. A few platforms are small and are difficult to get onto; it may take a few tries to reach them without falling off. A few paths are only accessible if you follow a series of platforms early on in the level.

Hitting a floating platform will disrupt your jump. This can be especially tricky when you’re trying to cross chasms, as hitting the platform will result in you falling in. Minimize the likelihood of this happening by jumping once you’re away from the platform.

Enemies & Lives

Enemies and chasms are the main hazards in this game. Enemies prowl the level in a predictable pattern. To defeat them, you must stomp on their heads.

You begin the level with 3 lives, represented by hearts on the top left corner of the screen. Each time you touch an enemy, you lose a life. You will fail the level if you lose all your lives. You instantly die if you fall of a chasm.

You can replenish your hearts in one of two ways. The first is by collecting hearts. This allows you to replenish one full life straight away. The next is by hitting boxes with heart icons. These replenish 1/3 of a life.

Scoring

To earn points, pick up various items on your way to the end of the level. Most items are worth 500 points, while the stars are worth 10,000 points apiece. Not only will picking up all the stars earn you the 3-star rating, it will also be the key to getting the highest number of points.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

We advise against killing your foes if you can just avoid them. You risk losing lives if you touch them and you don’t need to slay them to finish the level. Kill your foes only when convenient.

Educational Aspects

This game encourages the development of a player’s response times and hand-eye coordination. It also rewards players for being inquisitive, as exploring the game thoroughly is the key to retrieving as many objects as possible.

We recommend this game for school-aged players and above. We recommend it for fans of old-school horizontal platformers like the original Super Mario games.
