Leap The Synth Game Review
Leap The Synth Game Background
Leap The Synth is a rhythm platformer game.
The goal is to make it to the open door near the top of each stage while avoiding hazards scattered across the levels.
The game was developed by Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana24 as part of JamGoJam JamDNA 9.
How to Play Leap The Synth
Left click on level 1 to start the game. The game then plays a skippable intro about a programmer thinking about synthetic wave music from the 1980s, when he accidentally creates an infinite loop. The player goes into a dream of their own code, and bugs represent the bugs in their code.
Press either the W key or the left arrow key to move left.
Press either the D key or the right arrow key to move right.
You do not have a jump command in this game, however if you are standing on a blue block when the beat hits it will cause you to jump.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Move to the beat to avoid retractable spikes, fireballs, disappearing platforms, and hop on the beat by standing on blue platform squares.
You can hop on and destroy the flat, wide yellow walkers. When you stomp down on a flat yellow walker it causes you to bounce upward, giving you another means to jump.
All other enemies must be avoided.
The game has 12 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
On early stages the beat is slow, but the beat speeds up as you advance through the game.
Early in the game there is a 1-2 beat, whereas later there is a 1-2-3 loop.
Sometimes you have to jump at fully exposed spikes to have the timing correct to miss hitting them.
On later stages watch out for portions of the platform which disappear.
Some segments of each stage need completed quickly in segments, but it can help to pause in safe areas between challenging parts to break each stage down into easier, smaller parts.
Educational Aspects
This game helps children with hand eye coordination, anticipating movements, and better developing a sense of rhythm.
Player Age Recommendations
This game is quite short. The first few stages are easy enough for young children to be able to play them. Even experienced adult gamers will appreciate the challenge of the last couple stages.
