How to Play Hungry Frog

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select the play button at the center to begin. Each session begins with a brief tutorial; follow along as instructed to start the game in earnest.

Select anywhere on the screen to dart out your tongue.

Basic Gameplay Advice

You play as a hungry frog looking out for food. Shoot out your tongue at passing or stationary flies to eat them. Flies move around and land, then eventually fly off again. Most flies you catch are black and white, and most come in one at a time. Occasionally, you see a yellow fly that never lands. These flies are much more difficult to catch, and they disappear after flying around for awhile.

You start the game with 3 lives, represented by X marks on the top left corner of the screen. Each time you miss, you lose a life. Lose all your lives and the game ends.

Each ordinary fly you catch is worth between 1 and 2 points, while the yellow flies are worth 10 points each. Your web browser automatically saves your best score. You can compare you latest and best scores on the game over screen.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

To catch ordinary flies, it’s usually better to wait until they land for a significant amount of time. It’s incredibly risky to attempt to catch them while they’re flying. Early in the game, you can usually catch flies as soon as they land. As the game progresses, the first time they land won’t necessarily be the time they stay still the longest. Wait it out until they land at least a second time, then catch them as soon as you’re sure they’re not going to move again.

The one exception to this rule are the yellow flies. Each time they fly in, it can be incredibly difficult to try and catch them. To lower your risks, wait it out until their flight paths seem to coincide with another fly that’s about to land. Aim for the ordinary fly that had just landed. This will increase your odds of catching the yellow fly significantly.

Another, riskier method of catching the yellow fly is to try to anticipate where it’s going and shoot just as it moves there. This is difficult to pull off, as the yellow flies are usually more erratic fliers.
