Hog Dog Game Review

Hog Dog Game Background

Hog Dog is a restaurant sim game where players operate a lunch cart.

Players serve a variety of customers who come up to the food cart and must give them what they want before their patience wears thin, causing them to walk away before their orders are served.

This game was developed by Zygomatic.

How to Play Hog Dog

Press the orange and white PLAY button on the right side of the screen to start the game.

Look at the thought bubble for each customer and then drag them each of the items they desire before their patience meter runs out. You must drag the foods one at a time into the thought bubbles above each customer.

Every customer who leaves happy will leave a payment on the counter for you to collect. The customer does not count as served until you pick up their payment.

Each level represents a day, and has a unique goal (like a number of happy served customers) which you must beat before the timer runs out.

Score points based on how quickly you serve customers and how happy they are with their orders.

Basic Gameplay Advice

The game features 80 stages which are unlocked sequentially.

Drag hamburger meat onto the grill to cook it, then put it on a bun. Add any sauces or other toppings, then drag the completed burger to customers. Items may be added on the bun in any order, provided they are cooked if needed.

As you advance through the levels additional drinks, condiments, and sides are unlocked. Some early stages feature rotating ingredient types (e.g. ketchup, mustard, or BBQ sauce), then as you progress through the game multiple ingredients of the same category become available.

The cooking location changes for different meat types. The game starts off with cheeseburgers that cook on the grill. Bacon is added as an optional topping on stage 4, and is cooked in a frying pan. Hot dogs also cook on the grill, and are available starting in level 5.

Some ingredients can be used in multiple different ways. Onions can go directly on a burger, and can go into the frier to make 3 servings of onion rings. Drag coffee beans to the expresso machine to make 3 cups of coffee.

The right rail of the game shows happy customers vs unhappy customers, level number, level score, remaining time, and how many of the goal orders you have reached. The bottom right corner has buttons for pausing the game and turning game sounds and music on or off.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Some toppings are hard to see. If a customer does not accept an order it means the item either has an extra ingredient or is missing an ingredient. Look closely to see if there is something missing or serve it to another customer.

Rather than trying to serve all customers as they arrive it is better to serve customers who have plenty of remaining time left. This game has customers coming faster than most people can possibly play. If you have multiple partially served customers you earn nothing, but if you skip a few customers and serve one fully then you can score.

You can make coffee, onion rings, and basic burgers well in advance and then serve them as customers come.

If you perform poorly on a stage you can replay it again.

Educational Aspects

This game can help people play attention to detail and improve time management while multitasking.

Player Age Recommendations

This game is likely fun for most students beyond third or fourth grade right on through to adults. Younger children might find the rapid speed customers come to be quite frustrating, as partially served customers leave before their orders are complete.
