Hefty Shaman Game Review
Hefty Shaman Game Background
Hefty Shaman is a puzzle platformer game featuring a fat shaman who leaves shockwaves on the ground when he jumps.
Alessandro Pezzetti’s Havana24 developed this game as a submission to JamGoJam | JamDNA 11.
How to Play Hefty Shaman
Press the gray and black PLAY button on the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen. Select a brown level number button on the level select screen to start playing the game.
Each level has an introductory screen where you must press any key to advance to the stage.
Move the shaman around the playing field using the WASD keys or the arrow keys. You can jump by pressing the up arrow key, the W key, or the spacebar. When you land your jumps you create shockwaves on the ground. Shockwaves can sent briars flying in the air, push rain stones, and take out enemies.
Basic Gameplay Advice
Move the shaman around the stages while avoiding the briars and the bulls. Push any rain stones to the altar, then grab all the tribe members and bring them with you safely to the altar. You can jump on tree branches.
Starting on stage 6 there are wild boars which also create shockwaves. You must avoid their shockwaves then knock them out with shockwaves of your own.
Purple ground is immune to the impacts of shockwaves.
This game features 14 stages which are unlocked sequentially.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Watch out for low hanging platforms from above. You can jump through tree branches up higher, but some other firm platforms block your jump height, requiring a tighter jump timing.
Higher jumps lead to larger shockwaves, which may be needed to get across wide briar patches.
On level 9 you can use the rain stone as a temporary platform to get up atop the purple blocks on the left side, so that you can collect all your tribesmen using the tree branches across the top.
On level 10 you do not need to take out all the wild boars. The one to the far left is almost impossible to get to without accidentally dying. Similarly, on stage 13 it is easy to take out the 2 wild boars to the right, but not the wild boars to the left.
On level 11 you can go across every other block across the bottom to leave a path back to the altar, so that you do not have to race under the long string of briars.
Educational Aspects
This game can help children improve hand eye coordination along with timing moves to solve problems.
