Chomp Chase is a maze attack game which was inspired by the Pac-Man series. Eat all of the pellets on each stage to advance to the next. Avoid the spiders unless you are powered up.

How to Play Chomp Chase

Press the blue and white PLAY button on the welcome screen to bring up the level select screen. Choose a level number to begin playing it.

Press the arrow keys to move the robot around the playing field.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Lives

You start the game with 4 lives. If a spider touches you while it is not dark blue you die.

If you eat a power pellet / coin the spiders temporarily turn deep blue and you can defeat them by running into them. When you eat consecutive spiders on a single power pellet their values double from 200, to 400, to 800, to 1,600.

Defeated spiders then go back to the central hive to repair and respawn.

Levels

Clear all the coins and pellets from each stage to advance to the next.

This game has 28 stages which you can play sequentially. All levels are unlocked when you start the game. As you beat one stage you advance to the next. When you beat the final stage the game does not wrap & send you back to the first stage.

Scoring

Fruits appear periodically to collect, with their values starting at 500. Each power pellet is worth 100 points. Each basic dot is worth 10 points. The spider scoring starts at 200 and doubles each spider you eat consecutively under the same power pellet.

Your game score is the sum of your cumulative level scores.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

You sort of have to decide if your goal is to try to beat every stage or if you want to maximize game score. Maximizing game score requires trying to get the spider score multiplier going often, whereas beating every stage can mean using power pellets more for clearing out dots than for eating spiders.

The key to maximizing your game score is to be able to play through all 28 levels in one game, which means you have to beat about 9 levels per death to make it totally through the game.

You can wait near power pellets for spiders to approach so that many of them are nearby and you can score a lot of points quickly. Spiders and fruits flash when they are about to change states back to normal or disappear. Try not to have too many close calls with spiders if you want to beat every stage on a single game.

Some of the stages have confusing layouts with long isolated legs. Be sure not to eat all the power pellets in an area while leaving regular dots behind or you might die when you go back to clear out the last few dots.
