How to Play Charlotte Valley

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the welcome screen, select Play at the center to open the level selection screen. Select Start Game on the bottom right corner of the level selection screen to play the game from the level currently shown. Select the arrows to the left and right of the level name to browse for levels.

On the desktop, press the WASD or arrow keys on your keyboard to move:

• Press the W key or the up arrow key to move up.
• Press the A key or the left arrow key to move to the left.
• Press the S key or the down arrow key to move down.
• Press the D key or the right arrow key to move to the right.

On a touchscreen device, tap on the on-screen arrows on the bottom left corner to move.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Basic Rules

Your goal is to collect all the flowers on the field. Approach the flowers to pick them up. Once the flowers have been retrieved, move to the door to finish the level. The door will not open until you pick up all the flowers.

If you get stuck in an unwinnable situation, you can play the level again. You can restart the level by selecting the reset button on the top right corner of the game screen.

A timer appears on the top left corner of the screen. Your browser records your best time and displays it below the level number on the level selection screen.

Levels

The game has 20 levels, which are unlocked sequentially. You can replay any of the levels you’ve previously beaten to beat your previous time.

Features

Spikes are the first major feature that appear. They first appear retracted as holes on the ground. Once you walk past them, they shoot upward, rendering the previous path impassable.

Escalators let you travel on them in a single direction, which can be changed by flipping a yellow switch.

Bridges, meanwhile, allow you to cross an intersection in a specific direction, which can be horizontal or vertical. Once you cross a bridge once, it will typically rotate in a different direction. You can also rotate every bridge piece in the level at once by selecting a yellow switch.

Colored locks can block some paths. To clear a lock, you must collect a key that’s the same color as the lock.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Often, the best way to solve the trickier levels in this game is by trial and error. Many levels can only be solved if you collect the flowers in a specific order. Some levels, for instance, have flowers in chambers that raise spikes on both sides. In this situation, you must enter in the direction opposite of where you want to exit.

Crossing bridges can be a tricky affair. In some instances, you must walk on a bridge part of the way and come off it in the same direction you came from. This is to ensure that once you flip a blue switch, the bridge you want to walk on is still oriented correctly. Sometimes, you may even need to turn a bridge piece multiple times in a row. This can be accomplished in two ways. The first is by stepping on and off a singe one. The second, which is useful for multiple bridges, is to step on nearby blue switches.

Escalators also pose a navigational challenge. In levels where the escalator points to the exit, it’s probably better to save that route for last. Escalators often run in combination with spikes and, on occasion, bridges. This means that going through them in the wrong order will lead you to get stuck.
