Basic Gameplay Advice
Moving & Attacking
At the start of the game, choose a grid size. You can play on either a 3 x 3 or a 4 x 4 grid. Playing in a larger grid gives you many more move options, which enables you to play longer and collect more coins.
Move your hero to any adjacent card. Most of the time, the hero moves to the new slot without a problem. However, in cases such as castles, barrels, and enemies, the hero has to move to that space twice. After the first move, the hero returns to the original slot. In the case of castles and barrels, the hero must first move to destroy them, then move again to collect their contents. Enemies that take multiple moves to defeat are tricky; we recommend avoiding them unless you have no other choice.
Cards spawn in the opposite direction of where you move. For instance, if you move left, the replacement card appears to the rightmost slot and moves the others in place. Some of the cards that spawn are items like weapons and shields. Your hero can equip item cards immediately upon moving, while he must break open castles, chests, and barrels first before you can collect the items inside them.
Coins also appear throughout them game as loot inside the cards you break open or dropped by enemies. Collecting coins is part of your game objectives. The coins you’ve collected form part of your final score.
Combat
Hit points are the core of your attack and defense. You begin each game with 10 hit points, which appear at the top center of the hero’s card. A similar number also appears above the hazard and enemy cards; these indicate how much of your hero’s health they take out when you move to their slot. If your health points outnumber theirs, you survive. The game ends when you lose all your health points.
You can replenish your hero’s health by collecting potion cards. These restore the number of points indicated by the number of points above them. You can only use potions until your health bar is full; you gain nothing from collecting them if the bar is maxed out.
You can use weapons and shields to attack or weaken enemies without losing your health points. Their values appear on their bottom left corners. Defense strength protects your health points while attack strength takes out your enemy’s hit points. These have a maximum strength value of 3 points each, limiting you to one weapon and one shield at any given time. These value go down as you use the weapons or shield. You lose them once an enemy’s or hazard’s strength exceeds their values, with any remainder attacking your health directly. In this case, you can use your hero’s own health points to attack or wait until you find a new weapon.
Like with potions, your limits mean you cannot equip any more when you are maxed out.
Scoring
You have two scores in this game: the number of coins you collected and the number of enemies you’ve slain. At the game over screen, you can share this game and your score with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp using their respective buttons.
Cards
The game’s cards can be divided into four types. Terrain serves as part of the game’s environment and serve as places to stand or break open. Power ups or collectibles can be picked up or equipped and provide some sort of bonus to your hero. Hazards serve as potential sources of harm that you must move around. Enemies comprise ferocious animals and evil knights to vanquish.
The types of terrain are as follows:
- Grass is the default type of terrain and offers no advantages or disadvantages to your hero. Step on it as needed.
- Castles need to be broken down in one move. Once broken, it can contain some sort of reward or an enemy knight. On your next turn, you can choose to collect this reward or fight the knight.
- Barrels contain collectible items; we recommend you break them each time you encounter them. Although they may contain traps, most barrels usually hold coins, weapons, or potions.
- Chests require keys to be broken into. You cannot move to a space occupied by a chest unless you pick up a key.
The types of power ups are as follows:
- Cannons, once collected, fire cannon balls at enemies in the same row and column where the card was. While it can only fire horizontally in the direction it’s facing, it can fire in both vertical directions.
- Potions will restore your hit points.
- Weapons include swords and spears and are used to attack your foes.
- Shields protect you from enemy attacks and hazards.
The types of hazards are as follows:
- Floor spikes emerge or retract on each turn. Stepping on a retracted spike does not damage your hero, while walking into them when they are up does. We recommend moving to a retracted spike if no other option exists, as most spikes only have you take one or two points of damage.
- Traps can either spawn in barrels or be on their own. Your hero takes damage upon walking into them unless he is equipped with a shield.
The types of enemies are as follows:
- Wild animals like boars and bears are the first enemies you meet in the game. These are relatively easy to beat with the early weapons available.
- Knights start off as weak foes but become stronger as the game progresses. Their level indicates the size of a threat they pose to your hero. Take into mind their hit points, their attack strength, and any shield they have equipped.
Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy
Conserve the potions, weapons, and shields you find on the field. Collecting these when you maxed out your capacity for these effectively wastes them. We recommend avoiding them to save them for when you need them, particularly in the later levels when they spawn less frequently.
The game’s spawn rates change as it progresses, and it’s wise to tailor your strategy to make the most of it. Early on, the game spawns more weapons and shields and pits you against weaker enemies. Meanwhile, the later game generates fewer yet more powerful weapons but pits you against tougher foes. Move carefully, as by this stage you can easily get stuck in a corner.
