Animals vs Zombies is a zombie fighting game that switches out the kingdom of living things that takes the fight to the zombie horde. Other than the name reference, the game is surprisingly not at all like Plants vs. Zombies. The animal heroes move around, guns a blazing, and shoot any zombies that approach them. Help them survive for as long as possible.

How to Play Animal vs Zombies

To select, left click with your mouse or tap on the touchscreen with your fingers. On the opening screen, select which device you’re playing the game in. On the welcome screen, select Start below the game’s title to begin.

On a desktop, use the mouse and keyboard to control the animal. Press the arrow keys on your keyboard to move. Move your mouse to aim; left click to shoot.

On a touchscreen device, tap on the bottom corner controls. To move, tap on the control circle on the bottom left corner and swipe in the desired direction. Tap on the shoot button on the bottom right corner to shoot at the zombies.

Basic Gameplay Advice

Survive for as long as you can by shooting down the zombies. Zombies come in many shapes and usually take a few shots to bring down. Over time, the zombies start mobbing you in groups and will move in the direction you go. Evade and shoot at them for as long as you can.

Your health meter appears on the top right corner of the screen. You lose health each time you make contact with a zombie. Lose all your health and you die. On the game over screen, you can replay the game by selecting Restart on the center right.

You earn 1 point for every zombie you kill. Your web browser automatically saves your best score. Your best score appears on the bottom center of the game over screen and the top center of the welcome screen.

Collect hexagonal coins along the way. The game points to the direction of the coins you can collect. Red coins give you a brief firepower boost, allowing you to take out zombies faster for a brief period. Use the green coins to buy new playable characters and game maps. In total, there are 9 different unlockable animals and 4 unlockable maps. New characters have different attack and defense stats, which allow you to shake up your gameplay.

Advanced Playing Tips & Strategy

Keep moving and shooting. The zombies gradually move toward you, and the only way to guarantee long-term survival is to keep evading them. While most of them will cluster in one direction (i.e. the one you’re facing), a few will emerge from behind you on occasion. Be wary of these zombies as you flee. Avoid the corners; you can easily get trapped in them if you linger too long.

Try to move toward the red coins to bolster your firepower briefly. This big boost can help you thin out the main horde of zombies coming after you.
